Romeo and Juliet Coursework
There was nothing that any of the characters could have done to avoid their deaths. They were preordained by fate.
I partly agree to the statement about their deaths being preordained by fate, but not completely as I do not agree that there was nothing any of the characters could have done to avoid the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. By looking at the roles of each character, I will determine whether any of the characters actions influenced the event. I believe that some of the events that happened where due to fate like how Romeo did not get the letter from Friar Lawrence. In this essay I will look at the views of both the families, the Montague's and Capulet's, and see what they think about the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.
One way I believe fate was responsible for deaths of Romeo (a Montague) and Juliet (a Capulet) was because of the two families having a feud for the last few generations, which had got so bad, that it had led to the deaths of two 'star-crossed lovers'. The feud between the families was so bad that even the families servants were fighting. The families should have known that eventually someone was going to die.
After a fight in the middle of the street between the two families in Act 1 scene 1 from lines 79 to 82 and lines 94 to 95, the prince said:
'Rebellious subjects, enemies to peace, Profaners of this neighbours- stained steel- Will they not hear? What ho! You men! You beasts. That quench the fire of your pernicious rage...' then he announced, 'If ever you disturbs our streets again. Your lives shall pay for the forfeit of peace'
