The relationship between Macbeth and Banquo has also changed dramatically from the beginning to the end of the play. At the beginning of the play Macbeth and Banquo started of being best friends. They fought war side by side. At the end Macbeth ended up killing Banquo because he started not to trust Banquo so Macbeth ordered Banquo’s son, Fleance, to be killed also. At the attack Fleance escaped but Banquo was killed. After the murder Banquo came to haunt Macbeth at the banquet, he kept his promise that he would go to the banquet. The relationship between Macbeth and Banquo started to slip downhill when they both met the witches together. The witches told them that Macbeth will be king “All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!” said the third witch, but Banquo will be father of kings but he will not be a King himself “Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none” said the third witch. At first Macbeth laughed at the witches but he thought about the prophecies and started not to trust Banquo. The relationship went more downhill when King Duncan was killed in Macbeth’s house and Banquo was not trusting Macbeth but suspecting him of the murder. This mistrusting went on until Macbeth decided to kill Banquo and his son. Macbeth wants him and his sons to be king not Banquo’s son.
Macbeth’s and Lady Macbeth’s relation has also changed from the beginning to the end of the play. At first Lady Macbeth and Macbeth are in a loving relationship. Once Lady Macbeth heard about the witches’ prophecy she wants the prophecy to come true so she starts to have a vaulting ambition. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth first action towards the prophecy was when King Duncan came to Macbeth’s castle. Macbeth was not thinking of anything at first but Lady Macbeth told him to kill King Duncan. Macbeth did not want to do this but his wife said she would leave if him if he doesn’t do this. Lady Macbeth has the authorities over Macbeth is very strange in Shakespearean time because women do not control their husband its usually the husband that controls the wife. Macbeth loves his wife so much that he has to kill King Duncan. Macbeth has the vaulting ambition to become king but he doesn’t take any actions but Lady Macbeth is the one who is pushing Macbeth onwards into doing the actions. Once Macbeth becomes king his relationship with Lady Macbeth started to fade away. When Macbeth becomes King he starts to forget about Lady Macbeth because he is too overwhelmed by his power. At the end of the play Macbeth nearly forgets about Lady Macbeth she had gone mad, having nightmares and sleep walking because of the guilt of killing King Duncan “Here's the smell of the blood still: all the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. Oh, oh, oh!” said Lady Macbeth. Lady Macbeth is basically saying the guilt of killing King Duncan will not go away, it will always be there and the blood mark will be there. “Go get some water,
And wash this filthy witness from your hand.” said Lady Macbeth to Macbeth after killing King Duncan. Before Lady Macbeth said that water will wash the blood away “Go get some water, and wash this filthy witness from your hand”. But now she is saying that the blood cannot be washed out even with the perfumes of Arabia. The blood represents the guilt she has or maybe it represents King Duncan haunting her.
Macbeth’s view of the witches has changed from the beginning to the end of the play. The first time Macbeth met the witches he thinks they are nothing and he laughs at them when they told him the prophecy. At the end of the play he hates them and fears them in a way. Macbeth thought the witches lied to him but they didn’t. They just didn’t tell him the whole information, for example when the witches told Macbeth that he will never be killed by a child of women born “Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn The power of man, for none of woman born Shall harm Macbeth.” But Macduff was born from his mother’s stomach, cut open. The other example is that he will fall when the forest moves “Macbeth shall never vanquish'd be until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill shall come against him.” But the English soldiers chop down the trees and disguised themselves wile marching using the trees to camouflage them.
The overall picture of Macbeth is that he has changed a lot from the beginning to the end of the play. He has changed from a war hero which everyone has his respect to an evil selfish King which no one respect him, but there are also some good feelings inside him that doesn’t change.
