Life In The Great Forest

It was Winter; the flakes of snow were falling like feathers from the sky. The great forest, dark, mysterious a place of exile where psychological growth occurs. Near the thick undergrowth of the forest lay a cottage hidden from anything or anyone. The wild beasts surrounded it roaming freely in their habitats. The dense trees shed no light onto the forest floor, which was no help to a young girl trudging through the forest to find shelter from the freezing snow. She walked for a while but began to slow down, as her body felt heavier and heavier until she collapsed under a tree. There she stayed until the following morning. She awoke to the sound of birds singing around the forest. She felt numb, as she had been in the freezing cold for many hours. She got up and stumbled a number of times. It was hard to feel her feet. She looked around, saw nothing but trees and undergrowth, and became frightened. She was alone in the forest, so terrified; she did not know what to do.

The young girl was not sure what to do for the best. The howl of a wolf near by startled her. She began to run for her life as she was convinced it was after her. She heard noises in the bushes and was becoming terrified. She slumped down onto a log and began to sob into her hands at the situation she was in. What was she going to do? She was frightened, alone, tired and hungry.

The huntsman who had been sent to kill her was gaining on the girl as her fresh footprints had appeared in the snow. He stopped dead in his tracks when he could hear something. Looking to his left, he could see the girl crying. Watching her for a while, he decided to go over. From behind, he slowly approached the girl and placed his hand on her shoulder. She screamed with fear and turned around swiftly to see the huntsman glaring at her. Now the girl was shaking from head to foot but managed to say, "Who are you?"

The huntsman did not reply to her. Standing there for a moment he thought then said, "I have been sent by your step mother to kill you. I have found you so I will carry out her wish". He drew out his knife and was about to pierce her innocent heart. She pleaded with the him and began to weep and said "Ah dear huntsman, leave me my life and I will run away even deeper into the wild forest, and never come home again." As the girl was so beautiful, the huntsman had pity on her but ...
