Explore the similarities and the differences of the types of love presented in Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing considering the love of the two couples in the play Beatrice+ Benedick and Claudio + Hero.

In this essay I will compare the relationships of Benedick and Beatrice with the relationship of Hero and Claudio's.

Both of these relationships bring out the theme of appearance and reality.

Much Ado About Nothing was written by William Shakespeare between 1596-1599 and is a comedy meaning a play with a happy ending, in which things could turn tragically wrong not necessarily .It is set in Messina, Italy in the 16th century.

Throughout the play, he displays his quick wit, loyalty, honourable nature, and his periodic lack of self-knowledge also is dismissive of love and marriage throughout the play.

Claudio is an immature romantic falling in love for Hero's looks rather than knowing her he is a young soldier returning from war. He is originally from Florence, a city in northern Italy noted for culture during the Italian Renaissance. His mind has been dominated by thoughts of war. After his return, however, his thoughts have turned in a new direction. He is smitten immediately by Hero, Leonato's daughter.
