Writing to a charity: Toybox

Dear Toybox,

My name is Adam Dundon. I am 14 years old and I am in year 10 at the Friary school in Lichfield. I live in the middle of England, in the Midlands in the city of Lichfield. Lichfield is a rather wealthy place, well certainly not in any poverty. We have a large cathedral, which has 3 spires, which Lichfield is quite famous for.

In school recently we have been learning about your charity “Toybox”. We have watched a video about everything that is going on in South America at the moment. We have learnt what Toybox does for the street children and to help against poverty. I think that the helpers who go out to get the street children and risk their lives are amazing people.

I was shocked to learn about how parents kick their children out so early or sometimes they just drown them at birth. I think that the fact that there is no real police force to catch murderers and thieves is atrocious. The parents view on children in Guatemala is so much different to the way adults and parents look at children in the UK and most other countries, they aren’t really given any respect as children, treated more like animals than children.
