There are many theories of the foetus being starved of oxygen, or the womb being filled with a toxic gas, crushed up, and extracted from the womb. This is all very well, but remember, this foetus will be less than twenty-four weeks old and is not able to feel pain anyway.
If the foetus was brought into the world unwanted, unloved and entering into a life of torture, is this not where the pain comes in? Is it not better that the child had passed away painlessly as an embryo in the mother’s womb, rather than having a life of torture?
My main argument for such a statement “Abortion is never justified” is that the world has modernised. It may be against tradition in some eyes to have an abortion and to kill an unwanted child. But you have to look at the situation in a more practical perspective. This is very much the case when looking into rape incidents where the mother wants to get rid of the child. In this case I feel that getting rid of the baby, is repairing some of the damage done. Although the women will still carry the mental scars for the rest of her life, she will not have to face the labour, or upbringing of a child that she loves, yet brings so many bad memories.
The reason why abortion is a big problem is many people have different ideas of when it is acceptable to have an abortion or if it is acceptable at all. Catholics and the Church of England are against abortion because it is considered a sin like murder.
It is this “unknown” state of the Child during birth that brings so many questions. Many people are unsure as to when the child is fully developed, and in the Christian point of view when it is considered Human.
Here are some quotes of what people think of abortion:
The Second Vatican Council 1963:
Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
Pope Paul VI. Humanae Vitae 1968:
Human life is sacred. All men must recognise this fact. RECOGNISE!
Dr Huw Morgan – GP and Christian:
Man does not have the right to end his own or another’s for the sake of avoiding possible suffering. We are stewards of our physical life, and God alone can determine when the power to take life shall be given to man.
Overall I think that abortion is justified. In my opinion, many incidents can be possibly not solved, but at least helped by abortion. In rape, incest, or even just the situation of normal abortion, a lot of strain is taken of the women. A child is a very special thing; although the care needed to look after it is equally high therefore many women feel that they are unready for a child.
