Killing a human being is like killing a part of God. We are all unique and cannot be replaced. Life is a gift from God to us. To kill a human being is destroying all God’s plans for that person. God has our lives mapped out before we are conceived.
“Before I formed you in the womb in knew you, before you came to birth I consecrated you…” (Jeremiah 1:5)
The bible tells us we are the most loved and precious beings on this earth.
“Indeed even the very hairs of your head are all numbered” (Luke 12:4-7)
Also Deuteronomy 5:17 tells us thou shall not kill and rightly so. Who are we to decide when someone’s life ends? Only God decides this. He has imbued us with soul.
“While we are alive we are living for the lord and when we die we go to the lord, alive or dead we belong to the lord” (Romans 14:8)
This passage tells us our lives are on loan and we return to the lord when he decides our life has been fulfilled. It is not at our discretion to end any human life. To do so is a testimony against God.
“The unborn child is created in the image of God and is one for whom the son of God died” (Durham Declaration)
This extract is a very important statement. Christ dies to save us. He sacrificed himself to save our souls. I we kill ourselves or another person then Jesus’ was in vain
“When Christians state that life has sanctity, they are saying that life is special to God” (Anne Jordan)
If life is special to God it must be special to us and we should respect it.
The catholic catechism also teaches us a lot about “Respect for human life” the main passage is 2258 “…it involves the creative action of God and it remains forever in a special relationship with the creator”
There are other circumstances when looking at the sanctity of life. As Christians we believe that abortion is wrong. 2270 from the catechism backs up this belief.
“Human life must be respected and protected from the moment of conception”
This is very true as a baby cannot answer for itself and we as human beings have no right whatsoever to end that life.
Christians also believe that euthanasia or mercy killing is wrong.
“Inducing the painless death of a person for reasons assumed to be merciful?” (Henrickson & Martin 24)
Of course the catholic catechism is against this as well.
2277 “It is morally unacceptable”
Suicide is discussed in 2280. It speaks about how we are “stewards of life, not owner, it is not ours to dispose of.” God decides when our life comes to an end.
The list goes on, capital punishment, etc. This is all the terminating of a life that God has given us as a gift to protect and protect.
Jesus touched lepers, showed mercy to the poor and spoke with prostitutes. In other words he protected life. Killing a life is undoing Jesus’ work.
In conclusion Christians believe that human life is sacred because we are made in the image of God. We are holy, Godlike and precious. We are the most loved beings on the earth and we are all unique. Christians are strongly against abortion, euthanasia, murder and capital punishment. Our lives are not our own. God has a plan for every one of us and we are here to protect and preserve our life until we go back to Him.
“Truly is say to you as you did it to the least of my brethren, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40)
