Nature of Individuality

Admit it. We’re all different. We’re different in so many ways it’s impossible to count them, it’s like counting the number of hairs we have on our head. We all have unique and physical characteristics, as well as different personalities. Even identical twins have different opinions about different things. In our society, we tend to create problems that derive from the issue of individuality, even though we are encouraged to respect each other because of our differences. The problem with individuality is that people tend to disrespect and disregard others’ dignity and feelings because of their differences.

Individuality is natural. Jerry Spinelli demonstrates the nature of individuality through his book, Stargirl. Stargirl is an individual who was described as elusive, different, and rare. I’d like to point out that this part of the novel is a perfect example of society disrespecting an individual’s dignity and feelings. This type of behavior is intolerant and immoral.
