Prayer is a form of communication between God and people. Christians use prayers in both public and private worship as away of communicating with God. They also use prayers to listen to God and receive guidance, support and comfort from him. The prayers may be said in silence or aloud.

Jesus taught that people must be persistent in prayer. They should not expect their prayers to be answered straight away. Jesus taught that Christians must pray with true faith and devotion.

Prayer was the way through which Jesus could talk to his father, God. Jesus believed that God had a purpose for his creation. He used prayers as the means by which he could discover this purpose.

It is said that when Jesus needed support, used prayers so that God’s wisdom, power and strength could come to him.

There are four main types of prayers in Christianity; Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication.

I will be focusing on three of these 4 prayers in this piece of coursework.

The first type of prayer that I will be looking at is “Confession”.

Confession is saying sorry to God for sins or wrong doings that you’ve committed. Christians believe that it is very important to do this. They believe that God will forgive them if they are truly sorry and confess their sins.

Roman Catholic Christians go to confess their sins to a priest who gives them advice and helps them.

Confession helps Christians face up to their deeds. A true confession is apologising and meaning it.
