Once the Mormons had settled, they would have started to convert people. This may have caused trouble for two reasons: the number of Mormons would have increased and it may have upset people who were already faithful to their religion.
The Mormons may have preached and told every non-Mormon that if they were not living by the Mormon religion, they were wrong and would go to hell.
The locals may not have believed Joseph smith when he said that he speaks to God and thought he was mentally unstable.
Even though the Mormons may have upset the people in Kirtland, they shouldn’t have used the Mormons as a scapegoat when the banks collapsed. The Mormons may have had a bank, which collapsed but non-Mormon banks collapsed as well.
Also, there was no need for Kirtland to chase the Mormons out.
When the Mormons moved to Missouri, the troubles started all over again and some new ones were created.
The Mormons caused slaves to be freed which enraged the people of Missouri and was grounds for Joseph to be imprisoned. Salves should be free but farmers and businessmen would be displeased because it would mean that they would not have anyone to do their work for them for free hence causing trouble.
When Joseph got out of prison, the Mormons moved to a tiny town called Commerce and re-named it Nauvoo. They set up the perfect little community for Mormons. They did the right thing without upsetting anyone but the other people of Illinois were offended because the Mormons kept themselves to themselves.
I agree with the statement because I think the Mormons did cause a lot of their problems themselves. However, I think no matter what they could have done; they would still have trouble from other people because they were different.
