God created the world and everything on it so even before you are conceived he has a plan for you; therefore if a mother chooses to have an abortion she is ruining his plan for that aborted life. Jeremiah Chapter 1 Verse 5 – “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world.”
Abortion is murder but many mothers do not realize they are destroying a precious human being and are destroying god’s temple and his spirit by having abortion. 1st Corthians Chapter 3 Verses 16 to 17 – Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of god and the spirit of god lives in you. God will bring ruins to anyone who ruins god’s temple.
Most Christians believe that abortion is wrong and morally incorrect because every unborn child has a right to life regardless of their parents situations or if the baby will be handicapped.
In debates many references are made to biblical and church teachings but lots of people choose to ignore them because it’s usually easier to have an abortion rather then listen to the consequences of their actions, and some women might even be doubtful of the references from the bible and from the churches because they might not believe in God.
B
Christians put their beliefs about abortion into action in a number of different ways such as supporting public campaigns, trying to get abortion banned, demonstrating at parliament, joining public groups or making sure that their private life reflects their beliefs and their understanding or God’s will.
There are 2 main Christian organizations that protest against abortion. One of these groups is called “Pro-Life”. Christians may join Pro-Life because they are living out their beliefs and biblical teachings such as "Thou shalt not kill" and are trying to stop people from what they see as sinning.Pro-Life also believes that if women knew what they were doing with their body and there unborn child there would be little possibly even no abortions. “If wombs had windows the abortion debate would be over in two seconds” Pro-Life is an organization that believes life begins at conception and so therefore abortion is murder. Pro-Life supporters protest that abortion is helping to destroy families by possibly destroying the bond between the parents and ruining someone’s life before they were even born. They also say that women should not have the right to an abortion if it is at the expense of her baby’s life. Pro-Life's main aims are to provide more counselling, financial and emotional support and practical help (such as free pregnancy tests) to pregnant women.
Organizations by Pro-life also suggest women should give their baby up for adoption instead of have an abortion which is considered to be the less. They also make sure that abortion is available on demand so people don’t have to wait until late on in the pregnancies to have an abortion. Pro-Life puts its beliefs into action by distributing papers twice a month to churches and sending leaflets to teachers in schools so people can be educated on the issue of abortion.
Another group that a Christian may join is called "Pro-Choice". This group's main beliefs are that a pregnant woman should have the right to make decisions about her own body, and her rights should take priority over the rights of the developing foetus. They also believe that it is the mother’s choice whether or not to have a baby and all they can do is offer morale support and make sure the mother knows exactly what she is doing. The main aim of pro-choice is to show that women are not criminals against humanity for having an abortion and make abortion socially acceptable.
Many Christians who join public groups feel that it is not enough to simply be a member but think that it is necessary to campaign in order to generate public awareness of their cause.
C
In my opinion abortion is justified. Taking into account Christian teachings I still feel that abortion is perfectly justifiable in certain situations and is often the best solution to many on going problems, be it for the mother, father, or child itself.
If the foetus was brought into the world unwanted, unloved and entering into a life of torture and neglect, is this not where the pain and emotional truama comes in? Is it better that the child had passed away painlessly as an embryo in the mother's womb, rather than having a life of torture?
The main argument against the statement "Abortion is never justified" is that the world has modernised. It may be against tradition and religious beliefs in some people’s eyes to have an abortion and to kill an unwanted child. But you have to look at the situation in a more realistic way. This is very much the case when looking into rape incidents where the mother wants to get rid of the child. In this case I feel that getting rid of the baby is repairing some of the mental damage done to the mother. Although the women will still carry the mental scars for the rest of her life, she will not have to face the labour, or upbringing of a child that she loves, yet brings so many bad memories.
The reason why abortion is a big problem is many people have different ideas of when it is acceptable to have an abortion or if it is acceptable at all. Catholics and the Church of England are against abortion because it is considered a sin like murder.
Here are some quotes of what people think of abortion:
Dr Huw Morgan - GP and Christian:
Man does not have the right to end his own or another's for the sake of avoiding possible suffering. We are stewards of our physical life, and God alone can determine when the power to take life shall be given to man.
The Second Vatican Council 1963:
Life must be protected with the utmost care from the moment of conception: abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes.
Overall I think that abortion is justified. In my opinion, many incidents can be possibly not solved, but at least helped by abortion. In rape, incest, or even just the situation of normal abortion, there is a lot of emotional stress for women having abortion but if they chose that over having a baby they must have a very good reason. A child is a very special thing; although the care needed to look after it is equally high therefore many women feel that they are not physically and emotionaly ready for a child.
