Mendeleev’s Groupings

Mendeleevs groupings were seen as more credible than previous attempts to find patterns in element.

Unlike newlands, mendeleev left gaps in his table. They allowed for the discovery of new elements.

He predicted the properties of an element called eka-silicon. He predicted that the element would go between silicon and tin in his table.

The element was discovered in 1886 and called germanium.

Since mendellevs death in 1907:

• 8 elements have been discovered
• 24 elements have been made in the laboratory
• the modern periodic table is based on mendellevs original table.
