Oil Spill Essay

Anytime there is an oil spill somewhere in the world, it is a tragedy for the place where it occurred. The purpose of this essay is to inform people about the past, present, and future impacts of two horrible oil spills. I will be contrasting the Deepwater Horizon and the Exxon Valdez oil spills, but I will be doing a little bit of comparing as well.
One major oil spill that had many past, present, and future effects was the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico. It started after an explosion on a drilling platform. One of the past effects was all of the immediate deaths that occurred. The 5 million gallons of oil spilled killed many animals, eleven people, and ruined several beaches that will take years to clean up. There are many present impacts too. People are still trying to recover from all of the damage, and clumps of oil are continuing to be found. Also, BP was asked to change but didn’t to save costs. We even have a few future concerns too. Oil is expected to remain for years to come because our solution wasn’t an 100% fix. BP is banned from drilling new wells for seven years. This oil spill really harmed the Gulf of Mexico’s beaches and waters.
