Describe the effect of Globalization in the lifestyle (Education, Economy and Food) in Saudi Arabia between 1980 and 2000.

Globalization has become one of the major symbols of economic, cultural and political life in the 21st century. Although there is no exact definition of globalization due to the complexity of the term and the changeable attitudes towards it, but simply it is ‘Name for the process of increasing the connectivity and interdependence of the world's markets and businesses’ (www.investorwords.com 29/8/2006). Globalization has started changing the way of life in many countries. For instance, Saudi Arabia is developing day by day because Globalization. This essay will look at the positive effect of Globalization in the economy, education and food in Saudi Arabia between 1980 and 2000.

First of all, the economy in Saudi Arabia has had the most changing by Globalization.  Without doubt the main resource for Saudi Arabia is the Oil. However, in the early of discovering the Oil in Saudi Arabia there was no big change in the revenue of the country this resulted in some  problems were facing the government made the developing of the country running slowly. So, in spite of the fact that Saudi Arabia has the largest oil reserves in the world, the country didn’t get the expectant revenue. However, in 1980 the Saudi’s government considered some rules after the decreasing of revenue which had caused by the fall of oil prices ( 29/8/2006). One of these rules is to be more flexible dealing with the developed countries particularly the USA and the UK. Furthermore, the government invited many oil companies such as Exxon Mobil and Shell to invest in oil field. These steps which are made by the government to open their economy help the country’s economy to rise after a period of stagnation. In addition, ‘ in 1997 Saudi Arabia established the Supreme Economic Council to formulate and better coordinate economic development policies in order to accelerate institutional and industrial reform’ (   30/8/2006). In these days the Saudi’s economy became more and more open for world because Saudi Arabia has become a member of W.T.O (World Trade Organization). In the sixth plan of Saudi Arabia the government concentrated in decreasing the cost of the government’s services and encourages the small companies by giving them some money which will help them in their businesses.  Moreover, one of the most important resources of the revenue for the country is the transport specially the air transport. If you take a look to Saudi Arabia between 1980 and 2000, we’ll notice that the air transport is the second resource in Saudi because this air transport is completely owned by the government of Saudi Arabia. After opening its economy, the USA became a main partner for Saudi. Therefore, American air line (T.W.A) helped Saudi air line (SAUDIA) to establish their business (Mulloy 1999 p.38). So, it is clear now that Globalization has a positive affect on the economy of Saudi Arabia. For instance, according to Wikipedia website on the Internet the gross domestic product in Saudi Arabia has increased from 546,602 Rs (Saudi Currency – Riyal) in 1980 to 706,657 Rs ( 1/9/2006) .

If we look at the education in Saudi Arabia in the past and compare it with the education in these days, we will see a completely change.
