TOK ASSIGNMENT 10/09/2007
Thesis: Have P.E lessons in a program
Physical education (P.E) is the study relating to the transmission of physical knowledge and skills to an individual or a group, the application of these skills, and their results. Many opinions have been put forth as to whether exercise is necessary or even beneficial to the program. In order to give an adequate assessment as whether all secondary institutions should make it compulsory we have to look at the health benefits it may bring, look closely at the academic performance it may raise and how an individual can become socially adjustable.
Physical education is just like oxygen that we breathe. Air is neglected by people but it is the most important thing for all the people and for the most of the living beings. (“Physical Education Class,” 10/09/07). Taking up a regular physical activity is a health-enhancing move. Regular physical activity that is performed on most days of the week reduces the risk of developing or dying from some of the leading causes of illness and death. (“Physical Activity and Health,” 19/09/07). Looking at the health benefits, physical education increases the resistance power in the body which reduces the risk of acquiring many illnesses. It gives our bodies a toned shape as it burns down fat. Some kinds of exercises can even get rid of psychological trauma. It prevents us from getting heart diseases, cardiac arrests, some forms of cancer, bone deformations and other types of common disorders. This useful activity creates awareness to an individual of their physical abilities and the development of their confidence and competence in the skills of using their body, their awareness of health and fitness and how their body functions. (“Benefits of Physical Education,” 10/09/07). This displays that it allows a person to take active part in it as well as enjoying and taking a pleasure in their own wellbeing. There are a lot of health benefits that we can all gain if this program is put into action.
