Create a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation, which could help me publicize Deal Academy for the Performing Arts (DAPA).

Task 2

There are several ways of advertising, some of which are done on the computer, and others which are not.

Methods of advertising without a computer;

Flyers, posters, newspapers, radio and television.

Methods of advertising with a computer;

PowerPoint presentations, web pages, web adverts, junk mail.

Many people everywhere see these things everyday, so it would be quite easy to get them to notice the academy if I advertised it using several of the above methods.

Task 3

The problem is that I need to advertise Deal Academy of Performing Arts, because it does not have much attention on it, and I would like to get more people interested in it.

The following table shows all possible ways of advertising DAPA, how each solution could be implemented and their advantages and disadvantages.

I have chosen to do a PowerPoint presentation, as it is easy to create and interesting for others to view. It has several advantages, which can be seen in the previous table.

System specification

People

The people that will use the system will be anyone that wants to read it. A PowerPoint presentation would not be easily seen, so they would have to know about the presentation before viewing it. On the other hand, it could be the general public who would see the presentation, as they would be able to see it on a public computer e.g. in a library, or in an information centre. The presentation could also be on a touch screen computer, which could be in several places. I think that the people that my presentation would appeal most to are either children, or adults who would want their children to attend.

The effects of the system had on the way that people work would be that they knew about DAPA, and that they could go to it easily with all of the information readily available to them.

The people that I would need to consult as the design and implementation stages of the new system progress would be people at DAPA. As I am planning to feature some of the teachers and students at DAPA, I will need to get hold of information about them and the academy. For example, I will have to ask the teachers a few questions for their profiles, and I will also need to have some information such as costs etc.

Equipment

        The hardware required for the system would be:

• An IBM compatible 600Mhz processor
• 600 x 470 VGA minimum desktop resolution at 255 colours or higher
• 1-5MB free disk space
• 4MB graphics card
• 3.5” floppy drive (for external transportation and copying of presentation)
• 2-buttoned mouse
• Keyboard
• Printer (optional)

The software required for the system would be:

• Microsoft Windows 3.1, NT, 95, 98, 2000 or XP
• Microsoft Office 97 or later

Data

The type of data items needed – Pictures, text, information, links.

The method of data capture that will be used – I will find pictures from photographs and the internet. I will write the text myself. I will get information for the dance centre, web pages and leaflets. I could make links to web pages.

I will cover data security/backup by protecting it with a password. This would only allow people who knew the password access to the original data.

Documentation

The type of documentation needed – A user to guide to tell people how to use the system, and a technical guide telling them how to change it. The people needing it would be the ones who wanted to update the system, if prices/teachers/times etc changed.
