Music career

Two years later at the age of 18 he published many songs and in  (at age 18). For most of his life Stevens was the name he adopted.

Later in his life he `had two near-death experiences.

1. The first one came when he was 19.  He was taken to hospital and was diagnosed with tuberculosis.  Miraculously, he survived.
2.   His second near-death experience came in the late 1970s, where he nearly drowned from a freak boat accident.  He then asked God and said: “God, I'll do anything for you, I'll work for you...”

After that that he accepted Islam which was in 1978, he then legally changed his name to whom we know as Yusuf Islam
