My first potential reason for why a child or young person could be taken away from their parent is that the family could have followed a bereavement of one parent. In this case the other partner for e.g the Father could feel incapable of looking after his child due to Mother not being there to support him. This could lead to poor parenting and social services taking charge and taking child into short term care.
According to support can be given to parents who lose their spouse to death. This is a local organisation in which two individuals who were both widowed early on in life.
‘We understand how everyone responds differently to the death of a partner and how the emotional, physical and spiritual impact runs very deep.’
This shows that physically and emotionally a situation in which an individual who has lost a partner can struggle to bring up a child.
A Family breakdown can happen for any reason, such as finance problems, mental health issues, substance abuse. These reasons can all then link into a dangerous place for a child or young person to grow up into. For example financial problems can lead to stress which can then lead to taking out the stress out onto the child.
The stress taken out on the child can be physical, neglect or emotional and these can all lead to a child being taken by local authority’s into a safe environment which can last for a short time or long time.
Another reason for parents being uncapable to look after their children is that they could be physically and mentally incapable to care for the child. An example of this could be a teenage couple thinking they could care for a new born baby but then soon realising they are unable to do so. This could potentially lead to the lowest standard of care being given to the child and resulting in fostering or adoption etc.
All of these reasons and others are situations in why a child or young individual had been needed to taken into a place of care and away from the abuse or neglect.
Temporary care can be arranged for young children or people if situations of police being contacted in the middle of the night. An example is a child being found to be neglected all night whilst parents were out and child was left alone. If this was the situation then something called emergency care would be arranged in which the children can be taken to a temporary foster care home where he/she would look after them overnight until proper arrangements for accommodation and living could take place.
