Source B is Pro Jew. Golda Meir, the Israel foreign minister, wrote it. It is implying that the refugee was the fault and cause of the Arabs, not the Jews. They say that the Arab leaders wanted the population to leave to make it easier for the Arab armies therefore creating the refugee problem.
This source is also one sided because it is written by an Israeli and is written for the Israeli side and against the Arabs, stating that the neighbouring Arab nations ordered the Palestinians to leave and not the Israeli’s. It also says that the ‘atrocity at deir yasin’ was not the Jews fault, in fact they say it was carried out by ‘ Jewish dissidents’, implying it had nothing to do with the Jewish government.
Source C is a neutral source, it is neither for the Jews nor the Arabs, and it isn’t against them as well. An Eskrine Childers who was an Irish journalist on the spectator, 12th May 1961, wrote the source. It states that Jews claim that the Arab leaders disposed the Arab people out of the country. The BBC kept records of all radio sent messages from Palestine to everywhere else. They claim there was no order for the Palestinians to leave the country so therefore the refugee problem must be that of the Jews. He checked the records and found no evidence that there was a message sent. In fact the source declares that the Arabs told the Palestinians to ‘stay out’ and not leave.
In a way we can say that both source A and Source B are similar in a way because there is some form of biasness in these sources which makes them unreliable, defective and untrustworthy.
Source D is an extract from the comments made by the Palestinian refugees on the work of the UN. It is pro- Arab. Rea Wright quotes it in the ‘Arab Israeli conflict’. It was published in 1997 and is basically saying why should the Arabs sit back and accept what has happened and go along with it, it also mentions that they want their own country back. The UN also gave money and shelter in a neighbouring Arab country but they refused. The audience would be the people interested in buying the book.
Source E is a biased source. It is Pro- Jew. Its is a quote from a book called ‘The Arab Israeli conflict’, which was written by Rea Wright in 1997. ‘Abba Eban’ the former Israeli ambassador wrote this to the UN. Basically the source is saying that the refugee problem is kept alive for the political reasons and that Arabs are stubborn and have great attitude, because there are many other Arab countries where they can live but refuse to, in a way we can say that the Jews are trying to point out that as if the Arabs are arrogant. The Arab countries made a lot of money from oil so the Jews say these countries should give them homes.
Source F is biased and is pro- Arab. It shows an image of two women, a Palestinian and a Jew demonstrating about their rights to live in Palestine. It shows that there has been a 20-year gap and still people are complaining and suffering from the refugee crisis. The source shows unfairness of what happened, and some Jews agree that what happened is not fair. The audience of this source I would say could be the whole of the world.
Source G is biased and is pro – Arab. The mother of a Palestinian guerrilla who was killed in Israel in 1970 said that we are not beggars but we want our country back she also implies that one of her sons died trying to get Palestine back. She is now letting her other son go for the same reason. She indicates in the source that the media take pictures making them look like a ‘nation of beggars’.
The following sources take the Arabs side. Source A, D, F and G. I also take these sources are accurate in explaining the Arabs point of view.
These following sources take the Jews side, source B and E. I find these sources very useful because they clearly tell the Jewish points of view.
Source C is a neutral source, it takes neither side, but in a way we can say that this source is telling the truth in a way. I think that this source is excellent, this source backs up source A in that it explains that no messages were sent for Palestinians to leave the country so how could they have told their people to leave. This in turn proves that source b is incorrect and that this source is telling the truth.
There isn’t enough evidence to come to a firm conclusion, about who is responsible for the refugee. I would like a source that showed me what the UN thought because the UN had officials in Palestine who knew the truth of what was going on and who was to blame for the refugee problem. I would have been able to make a clear conclusion if there were more neutral sources because they base their decision on some real evidence, and also take no ones side thus not being biased which provides us with reliable sources.
If I had reliable sources to work with I could have come up with a firm conclusion about who was to blame for the refugee problem.
