Warily, we slowly approached the front gate to find a very convenient hole in it. As we clambered through the tiny hole we put our torches on, since dark was already upon us. On the way through the jagged, cratered path, which looked like it had been bombed over and over again, we stumbled upon an average sized house which had every window boarded up - except for one.
I felt a strange shiver down my back as we realised that we had to scale a ten foot wall, just to get inside. When all three of us were over the wall, we stared silently through the open window which still had shards of glass around it, only to see faint outlines in the house dark as a coal mine. Seeing as I was the biggest, my friends urged me through first. I felt terrified as well as curious. I stepped into a corridor which looked around ten meters long, but as we slowly crept through the corridor it felt like much more, like it never ended.
Around the first corner it became pitch black. All we could see was what our torches managed to cover with its light. Michael rummaged through his bag to find a banger. He set it off and threw it into the empty black space. Bang! The French banger let off a noise as loud as a gunshot, but what made us shudder was the echo which was sent through the house which was empty except for what looked like old furniture. Shaun went over to the mouldy furniture and to our amazement the couch completely collapsed, as if it was made of sand, when he touched it.
We all laughed but in a matter of seconds we stopped. Tap. Tap. Laughter instantly turned into fear.
“Who was that?” I nervously asked.
Shaun and Michael both replied with: “It wasn’t me!”
Tap. Tap. There it was again. The three of us frantically waved our torches around, hoping to catch a glimpse of what was making that spine chilling noise. I moved my torch along the stale and crusty wall until I came upon something strange. I looked, trying to work out what the hell that was and to my horror, it was a face, a face with a peculiar grin. I dropped my torch from shock and I sprinted as fast as I possibly could, just to get away. Michael, Shaun and I all started screaming at the top of our voices. I did not bother carefully climbing through the window, at a time like this all my thoughts disappeared as my aim was to be as far away as possible from this house, so I literally leaped through the open window.
I couldn’t see anything outside since all the surrounding trees blocked what was left of the light. Even at this point the screaming hadn’t stopped; it showed just how frightened we really were. We all dashed towards the gate to squeeze through the tiny hole.
Finally we were out of the haunted site, all of us feeling scared as well as relieved but the only thing running through our heads was: “Never again.”
