Also some people think that ‘Euthanasia is never justified’, this is because they believe that you are never really sure when someone is brain dead. Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”. This is saying that God knows what is going to happen and therefore euthanizing someone means you are denying the plans God has for someone. This could mean that a miracle could happen and they may be healed.
Finally, some people agree that ‘Euthanasia is never justified’. This is because they believe that, ‘God gives life and that they are accountable to God. God is the giver of life and therefore only God may end it.’ (Christian Perspectives Book) A bible quotation that may support this argument is, Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” This is saying that God is the one who knows what happens if you die, it’s his plans and he loves you and will always care for you.
However, some people disagree that ‘Euthanasia is never justified’ this is because they feel no-one wants to die a slowly and painful death. A Bible quotation that backs this statement is Ecclesiastes: 3, “…a time to kill and a time to heal”. This is saying that there comes a time when someone is dying for when they should be euthanized to ease there suffering. An example, of this would be Tony Bland. He wished to have his artificial hydration and nutrition to be withdrawn and this was granted by the High Courts.
Some people disagree ‘Euthanasia is never justified’, this is because they would argue that, ‘People should be allowed to decide for themselves when they want to die’. Ecclesiastes: 3 “…a time to kill, and a time to heal”. It is saying that there comes a time when someone should be killed and when someone should die. An example of this would be when Diane Pretty was terminally-ill with Motor Neurone disease. She was very, very ill and in constant pain and having heavy doses of medicine. There was a time for her to die but due to British Law her life could not be ended.
Finally, another point that disagrees with the statement above is that people would argue that, ‘People should be allowed to die in dignity, die with their loved ones around them in a loving atmosphere’. (Newspaper cuttings) A Bible quotation that would agree with this statement would the Golden Rule, “Treat other as you wish to be treated”. You would have to be in the position of needing Euthanasia and you would like to die with dignity. With your loved ones around you and still be able to just about talk. An example would be Annie Lindsell. She wished to die by being given a fatal dose of diamorphine for when the time came to die. The pain she was suffering anyone else in her position would have wanted the same.
I think that Euthanasia is justified in some situations and should only be accepted in some situations. Also, it should be entirely up to the person who has been diagnosed with the illness to whether they have Euthanasia, not advised by the doctor or family. I believe the Ecclesiastes: 3, quotation is really important when it comes to Euthanasia this is due to it saying about, “…a time to kill, a time to heal”. This I believe would affect my decision if it came to the situation of Euthanasia.
