Microsoft
Microsoft mission statement is:
“To enable people and businesses throughout the world to realize their full potential”
To achieve this mission Microsoft has set itself these aims:
- Broad customer connection
- A global, inclusive approach
- Excellence in everything we do
- Trustworthy Computing
- Innovative and responsible platform leadership
- Enabling people to do new things
To help people reach their full potential Microsoft has set itself this objective:
“Improve our seven core activities”
The core activities that Microsoft are involved in are…
-
Windows Client – the Microsoft Windows operating systems
-
Information Worker – Microsoft Office and other applications
- Microsoft Business Solutions
-
Servers and Tools – MSDN and other development tools
-
Mobile and Embedded Devices, featuring mobile devices including the Windows Powered Pocket PC.
-
MSN – the MSN Hotmail, internet access and other web-based activities
-
Home and Entertainment – Microsoft Xbox and online games.
The objective is to improve all these services and products. This will make customers computing experience as easy and as fun as possible and this will help it to achieve it aims. The aims are targeted mainly at customers but also the Microsoft employees. The employees developing the software and hardware for Microsoft must make sure that it is as easy as possible to operate to help Microsoft achieve its goal. I would also say that Microsoft’s competitors would have an interest in their aims. Microsoft controls the biggest share of the market in the computing industry and these aims they have set would increase further their market share (if achieved). Competitors like Apple must now step up their game in order to get customer’s to buy their products.
Coca-Cola
The coca-cola mission statement is:
“The Coca-Cola Company exists to benefit and refresh everyone it touches”
To accomplish this mission Coca-Cola have set itself these aims.
- Being innovative in our marketing, our brands and our consumer relationships
- Collaborating more productively with our business partners
- Changing some of the structures of our enterprise
- Increasing our commitment to community and the environment
These aims are aimed at the customers, employees and owners of Coca-Cola. Customers will continue to drink coca-cola if they become innovative with their brand, as this will set them apart from their rivals.
The owners of Coca-Cola want better collaboration with business partners. This will help them to provide a better product at a better price than the competition. The owners also want to change the structure of their enterprise. This has a direct effect with the employees. Some employees may have to be made redundant others may be promoted. An improved structure will increase the business’s efficiency. An efficient organisation saves time and money making them better than their competitors.
Coca-Cola’s competitors will be interested in their aims. If they become more innovative with their marketing then they are likely to increase their market share and gain more customers. Competitors such as Pepsi and Virgin will have to do more original things than Coca-Cola to get back these customers.
IKEA
IKEA is a worldwide company that sell a wide range of home furnishing products. They make their own as well. There main aim is keep their prices as low as possible. They are able to have low prices because they own their own forests, transport company and stores. This way they do not have to use external companies to make their products and distribute them so this reduces costs. So in turn IKEA can sell their products at low prices to its customers. Because their prices are lower than most of their competitors then they have a much wider range of customers. People with not much money can afford most of IKEA’s products. They have headquarters in each country that they have stores in. The IKEA headquarters in the UK is in

The culture of IKEA being the low prices and home furnishings with good design and function
IKEA want to achieve all of these objectives by 2010. They set these objectives in 2002 and want to complete the objectives in 10 years. IKEA’s mission statement is aimed primarily at their customers the objectives are aimed at the customers, owners and competitors. Competitors will have to keep reducing prices in order to keep up with IKEA if they continue reducing prices. Customers will carry on buying from IKEA if they lower prices and improve product quality. Owners will be happy if the company has a logistical efficiency. If the delivery system is fast and efficient then it’ll be cheaper to deliver the goods to all the different IKEA stores worldwide.
The IKEA objectives follow the SMART system. All the objectives are:
Looking at the objective you know specifically what IKEA want to achieve.
Most objectives can be measured for example IKEA want to offer outstanding sales prices. They can measure whether they have done this by measuring their sales prices against some of their competitors.
