Another complication that the Bolshevik government had to face in October, 1917 was the issue of land distribution to the peasants. To solve this issue a decree on land was passed in October 1917 .Basically this meant that an authorized law was enforced by the Bolshevik party which gave peasants the right to take over the states of the well born and well bred without compensation. The Bolshevik’s thought it was the best way to divide the land up equally.
Another issue the Bolshevik’s had was opposition from other leading parties (their rivals). In October 1917, Lenin creates the Sovnarkom which is a new form of government. On the first day that it was established, the congress of Russian Soviets ceased power in Petrograd. Lenin then read out a list of commissars for the new revolutionary government. This was made exclusively for Bolshevik party members only. There was no sharing. The Soviets were not consulted by the Sovnarkom.Lenin allowed constituent assembly meetings to go ahead because of union workers. In constituent elections, the Bolsheviks didn’t do very well. There were restrictions on Bolshevik power and policy. Decisions did not go to the Soviets. The establishment of the Sovnarkom kept leading parties at bay. This reduced the fear factor that the Bolshevik’s were in danger of being overrun.
The civil war played a major role in that it was a problem faced by the Bolshevik’s. It was a multi-sided conflict that took place within the borders of the former Russian empire following the collapse of the Russian provisional government and the Bolshevik takeover of Petrograd. The main hostilities took place between the Bolshevik Red Army, and the loose – allied anti – Bolshevik forces, Known as the White Army. Many other armies participated. Other forces included various nationalist and regional movements such as the Green army.
The civil war caused many problems between different parties and organisations. It provoked parties to attack each other and riots and revolts were common. This emphasised the importance of the civil war in the former Russian empire. The civil war brought people to awareness and they acted upon this. To solve this issue, the Bolshevik’s created a Coup d’ etat. This limited the government and a newly formed society was created.
To solve the complication of the National Minority problem, The Bolshevik government introduced and “passed rights of the people of Russia” decree. This was acted upon in November 1917. This gave the right to self – determination to the National Minorities of the former Russian empire. Other parties couldn’t do anything about it. This basically meant that there was a right acted upon the People of Russia. This was an authorized law enforcement set by the Bolshevik government.
In total there were 5 main points that the Bolshevik government faced in the year that followed their seizure of power in October 1917.
