Pilgrimage is a journey to a distant place of worship or a holy place. It is normally to a place where religious miracles and abnormalities have happened relevant to the pilgrim’s beliefs. In the past pilgrimages used to be a long and dangerous road into the unknown which was a great test in a person’s faith. Pilgrims used to travel by foot to make the experience more challenging and now many travel by train, air or another means of modern transport. This costs a lot of money and takes up much time in a person’s life. Some people think that pilgrimages are a waste of time and other think they are an emotional time in a person’s life where they can reflect on everything that’s happened to them.

Some people would agree with this statement and think that the money and time could be spent on helping the poor or homeless. The people who go on pilgrimage spend money on going to a place for the satisfaction of being at one with their God and helping the sick and less fortunate. This money could be used to home the homeless, stop aids in third world countries, beat starvation and control the dying of children.
