Energy transformation in a bouncing ball



        To investigate the energy transformation in a bouncing ball. When a ball is held above the ground it possesses Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE). When it falls down, because of the force of gravity, it loses Gravitational Potential Energy but gains Kinetic Energy and some loses by heat. This tells us that ‘Energy cannot be created or destroyed but can only change from one form to another’. Now I am going to find out what proportion of the energy is lost during a bounce and to see if there is a pattern.


After the ball bounces, it gains elastic energy, with this energy, it moves upward and gain Kinetic energy which is converted into GPE until the ball reaches the top of its bounce whereupon the whole process is repeated.         It is very difficult to take the reading, so that I have done it for 5 times for each height and take the average.

bolded. Those 2 results are quite out of the range between the others, but at least I am able to plot my graph. From the graph shows that the energy lost is by proportion instead of the same amount of energy. The result I got is what I predicted in the prediction. I think that my method is perfect nothing have to change, but I think I should practice more before the test, and make myself comfort, and don’t hurry when getting the result, wait for a while after I done the first record, then do the other one, next time when I do it again I will able to make it more accurate and get a better result.

    The length of the wick was also very difficult. We judged it by eye; however this was not very accurate. The results that I gained were very accurate. They all lied very close to the line of best fit on the graph. They also were all almost 40% of the theoretical results.
