Then it begins to sound more serious as Carlson stands up and goes over to Candy and his dog and the camera angle at this point over shadows Candy giving the impression that Carlson has got total power control at this point and so do the lighting at this point as they go off focus off Candy and go to Carlson.
Then the clever usage of camera comes into play as Carlson walks away and goes to his bed bunk to get his gun and the camera is in front of the card game between Slim and George but the camera takes the focus of that and focuses on Carlson getting his gun.
Then as Carlson walks over to Candy and his dog the lights go onto Candy and the camera angle which it is at now is on Candy on the background but on the foreground the camera takes the focus on and off Candy and onto the gun which Carlson is holding. Again the angle at which Carlson is showed shows that he is over powering Candy.
Candy then says that it is ok but again he doesn’t want to get his dog killed but he still allows Carlson to do so.
As Carlson take the dog outside the last shots of the dog are shown as the camera focuses on the dog until it leaves and then strait away the lighting and camera go to Candy as he then lies on his bed and this shows the emotion that must be going through Candy’s head.
As the dog is taken away to be shot by Carlson the tension and emotion that is in the room is shown as Slim opens up a packet of cigarettes and starts to smoke and this shows that he had a craving and that he is nervous and stressed about the dog and Candy. Also as the lighting on the people as they play their card game emphasises that they were feeling for Candy.
As the dramatic part of the scene is about to take place, the camera goes to Candy and then there is a quiet sound of a gun shot and at this point Candy begins to roll around in pain and a lot of emotion. The silence that was there when there was a gunshot made the tension better as it made u really listen out for the gunshot.
As Candy is in agony, there enters some dramatic and sad music which would made a audience feel really sorry for Candy and make an audience feel for Candy.
Then to finish the scene the camera is taken off Candy and gone to George. While the music plays the pictures ends and then the next day is shown. In the next day scene you are able to see the looks on everyone’s faces as they area all upset and sad.
I think that overall the way the film was shot is done superbly as they are able to capture the emotions of the characters and then put then on a film and still make the audience feel the same way as the character using their clever camera, lighting and music that they played.
