P2.3
I believe that it was affective in helping to advance their sensory development as they are where using a range of textures to encourage feeling and touching. Also the range of different shades of colours helps the children differentiate the shades visually. This exorcise helps the child’s sense of hearing in taking instructions and listening to colours as they were discussing together what they should use. It also helps visually as they needed to see where to stick specific items on their coloured card whilst they are working together, showing each other items that they or their peer can use. It is hard to set targets for area’s chosen but I believe activities like this improve all areas.
P2.4
I encouraged them to gather items specific to the colour they chosen while praising them with phrases such as “that looks really nice”. I extended their understanding by asking relevant question linked to the Elma book series along with the colours of Elma. We discussed how the materials felt and range of colours, for example bright red and dark red.
P2.5
I have learnt how important the sensory skills are to a child’s development and how they explore using their senses. I noted how much pleasure the children experience new exciting colours and adding addition to the classes very own Elma.
Activity 2
P2.1
The second activity I am going to discuss helps the self-reliance which is helping children to put on outdoor clothing such as coats, scarfs and hats. Children are encouraged to attempt to put on their coat when playing outside. Children are encouraged to be independent and take off coats and put on their pegs. They are encouraged to get dressed by themselves in P.E, outdoor play and home time.
P2.2
They often ask me for help to doing up buttons and zips. I encourage them to attempt the task themselves and if they are struggling I’ll break down the task. For example I might start the zip and let them finish it off which helps with their confidence and independence.
P2.3
I feel that this activity is important to master to encourage self-reliance. By eventually achieving this activity they will feel more grown up and raises their self-esteem. Children need to be able to dress and undress themselves and remember to put coats on when going outside. I therefore think it is effective as children are becoming more independent and self-reliant.
P2.4
I feel like I supported the child by encouraging them and praising them for their efforts. I also demonstrated how to properly do buttons and zips to show them how it works. By starting of the zip I broke down the task allowing the child to successfully accomplish the task.
P2.5
My personal learning is that I am more aware of how important self-reliance to a child. I understand how important it is for a child to achieve any goals. I have also learnt how to encourage children as it boost’s self-esteem helping them complete similar tasks in the future.
