During the battle of Britain and the battle of France Bletchley Park didn’t play a very big role but they did have a lot of messages to practise breaking and were able to find out the exact numbers of Germans planes that had been shot down.
During 1941 Bletchley Park, succeed in breaking the German navel code, this informed the British fleet of the positions of the enemy fleet and the British fleet were able to sink three heavy cruisers and two destroyers with no British loses, Bletchley Park also helped in the invasion of Crete.
The invasion of Crete was the first time the Germans used paratroops but because of Bletchley Park the British Garrison stationed there was prepared for the attack, even though the British had to retreat it was considered a victory for Bletchley Park and the Germans never used paratroops again because of the loses they sustained.
The Bismarck the pride of the Germany navy was going to the north Atlantic to attack British shipping, but Bletchley Park knew this and informed the navy who sent a ship to intercept it which was a mistake because the British ship was sunk and the Bismarck disappeared. The navy admiralty believed the Bismarck to continue and attack the British shipping but Bletchley Park found out that it was damaged and returning to a base in France but the admiralty did not believe this until Bletchley Park decoded a message that said exactly where the Bismarck was going. Then the admiralty sent Force H from Gibraltar to intercept it and they sunk it.
In North Africa in 1942 the British forces were not doing very well because the Germans could read messages sent by an America officer in Cairo and any information that Bletchley Park found took a week to get to North Africa which most of the time was late, but in June 1942 the code breakers broke the German army code again so when the Germans attempted to break through at Alam Halfa the British eighth army was there waiting for and after two days of fighting the Germans withdrew.
The Germans losses at sea were growing leaving the German forces short of supplies. Bletchley Park helped in the final attack from the Germans, by finding out that the Germans had 160 tanks and 200 guns so the British Dug themselves In with 820 guns and 400 tanks the Germans were cut to pieces.
D-Day for d day lots of information was needed from Bletchley Park about the German forces in France were needed, so the British forces knew where to attack, also Bletchley Park found out that the Germans thought the attack at Normandy was just a diversion from a main attack at Calais with the help of Bletchley Park they made the Germans think that was true. After D day Bletchley Park was not needed much because the war was as good as won but through out the war Bletchley Park and all the information proved invaluable especially the when they broke the navel code, if it had not been broken Britain would have continued to lose supply ships and might have been forced out of the war.
