Analysis of Rembrandt Joseph Accused by Potiphars wife Essay The story of Joseph and Potiphar's wife is told in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, chapter 39. Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and bought by Potiphar, a high ranking official in the Pharaoh's service. "The Lord was with Joseph," and gave him success in everything he did. This pleased Potiphar and before long Joseph was given the highest position in the household, and left in charge when Potiphar was away. Now Potiphar's wife found Joseph to be very good looking and had approached him several times saying "come to bed with me;" and Joseph being a man of God would not sin against his master or the Lord, so he refused her. One day when all the servants were gone, Joseph entered the house and Potiphar's wife approached him and while holding on to his cloak said "come to bed with me". Joseph refused and left the house leaving his cloak behind. Potiphar' Wife screamed for help saying that Joseph had attacked and tried to sleep with her. When her husband came home she told him the same false story. Potiphar was so angry at Joseph he had him locked up in Pharaoh's prison. "But while Joseph was in the prison, the Lord was with him." About David Hockney David Hockney has often been regarded as a playboy of the art world. He has had lascivious relationships, and he has run among strange and crazy artistic circles. Yet he has always retained a sense of stability in his life through his constant and tireless devotion to his work. Hockney is an artist his career. What is interesting about his life is not the problems he has and malaise. David Hockney was born on July 9, 1937, in Bradford, England, to Laura and Kenneth Hockney. The Hockneys were, as David said, a "'radical working-class family.'" Laura and Kenneth were solid parents who only wanted their children to have the best education possible. Laura raised her children as strict Methodists and resolutely shunned smoking and drinking in the home. Kenneth was a passionate radical and a conscientious objector during World War I. David Hockney was always considered an eccentric in Bradford. He never really cared what people thought of him and always did as he pleased. He spent afternoons at Sunday School drawing cartoons of Jesus, much to his teachers' dismay. As a young child, Hockney also developed an obsession with opera when he first saw the Carl Rosa opera company's production of La Bohème. He was an artist in the impressionist movement which originated in paris and started in the late 19th century.When he settled in Argenteuil he painted many canvasses from the banks of the Sceine including the canvas red boats, Argenteuil. Claude Monet was a French impressionist painter who was born on November 14, 1840 in Paris, France. He spent his childhood in Le Havre, this is where he first became known for his caricatures and drawings. Through an exhibition of his caricatures in 1858, Monet met Eugène Boudin, a landscape painter, who became a large influence on Monet. Boudin introduced him to outdoor painting, which became the basis for his work. In 1872 Monet lived in Argenteuil he lived here until 1876, this is where he painted the canvas red boats, Argenteuil. In the 1920s when he was painting a set of 12 canvases of water lilies but encountered problems as his eyesight was failing him. He became more popular in the second half of the 20th century when his work traveled around the world in museum exhibitions. Art Review

The first New Literati Painting that I am going to introduce is Lovesickness by Zhu Xin-jian. He graduated from Nanjing Arts Institute, and is currently a teacher in there. He is also a member of the China Artists Association and a professional artist. Lovesickness is created in 1990. The art form of this is obviously painting, and ink is used to paint the artwork. In the artwork, we can see that is a girl at a young age, is sitting in a porch doing stitching. There are some lovebirds accompanying her. The girl is situating in The Qing Dynasty, as seen in her clothes. The colour used in this painting is quite colourful, mainly using blue, which belongs to cold colours. It acts as a contrast to the red colour of the birds. Other colours used are quite pastel, like pale pink and green. These pastel colours are outstanding because black is used in the background. Worthy to mention the colour applied for the face of the girl---white, which bring out the redness of her cheeks and her lips effortlessly, but giving an impression of lively, instead of pale and weak. The lines drawn is smooth, edges aren't seen frequently. They are slender, especially those for the face of the girl. The lines drawn are in good harmony, which creates a soft and comfortable image. In lessons I produced a detailed drawing of a Chinese dragon in which I applied detail and used tone accurately. As part of my research all year ten pupils on the art course went a school trip to Oxford to visit two museums these were: the Ashmoleon museum and the Pitt rivers museum. By going to these museums it helped me to get a better understanding of styles used in art. While at the museums I paid great attention to Japanese and Chinese art. I also took note of colours and materials that had been used. I then choose a culture that I was interested in and started to collect as much information into them as possible. My chosen culture is Japanese and Chinese art. I selected these because I found them interesting and wanted to find out more about them. I have used many resources so far to collect information on my chosen cultures. I have used a computer and looked on the internet and Encarta. Books were also useful and provided me with many images and descriptions. I also went to a Chinese shop, here I brought items and used them in my research. Art Evaluation For Study of Da Vinci

Art Evaluation This project is a Squid in the style of a renaissance master. Leonardo Da Vinci seemed to be the most suitable influential artist for the task. We had begun with a tonal drawing of tin foil which helped with the method of painting the shiny reflective surface of the squid. The tin foil was mainly shadows and highlights; this is what we were after. I completed my piece with dark scratchy marks from the background, resembling the renaissance background. This piece of work took understanding and concentration to get the texture right with the contrasts of pencil. Every now and then I used an eraser to make sharp white marks to give the same straight shine there is on a crumpled foil. This piece of work required deep visual analysis and good observation of what you saw in front of you. Next, with the remainder of the group, I did a piece of abstract mark making, experimenting with a pencil and eraser seeing how many different marks I could make. In keeping with the rest of the group I tore one section of my work and mounted the collage on to a black background in place so that the tear was observed like a page break. When I came to the point of searching for an influential artist, Guido Reni appeared to obtain relevance to the project. Reni is a Master of chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro means a light and dark theme. Renoir.Aline and Renoir developed a relationship over the summer of 1881 while he painted his impressionist masterpiece The Luncheon of the Boating Party for which she modelled.

Renoir Pierre-Auguste Renoir (1841 - 1919) was a hugely prolific artists, completing some 6000 paintings during his carrer. Born in Limoges, France on February 25, 1841 his father Leonard was a tailor and mother Marguerite a seamstress. Renoir, the youngest child, had a happy childhood in Paris. Renoir spent five years as a porcelain painter. His work payed well and earned a him the nick-name Mr Rubens for his skilled brushwork. When the porcelain factory was automated Renoir's position became obsolete and he spent a year painting murals in cafes before joining the art school of Charles Gleyre in 1862. Though the schooling with Gleyre was very traditional it was of good quality and with an emphasis on sketching outdoors. Fellow students at Gleyre's school included Claude Monet , Alfred Sisley and Frederic Bazille . Renoir's connection with these artists led to him meeting Edgar Degas and Edouard Manet . The concept of impressionism developed from the times this group spent together in the cafes of Paris. The first impressionist paintings were those produced by Renoir and Monet during the summer of 1869. Prior to this, Renoir had met 16 year old Lise Trehot, whose dark features and rounded figure attracted Renoir. LOOKING AND COMPARING ARTISTS PAINTINGS & MOVEMENTS IN ART HISTORY The two artists whose work interests me are Salvador Dali and Henri Matisse. I have chosen these two paintings. SALVADOR DALI 'Paranoic Critical Solitude' This painting was dated 1935. The artist Salvador Dali has used the media of oil paint on canvas. His palette is mostly sandy ochre's and browns. There is some blue, green and blacks. The detail is such that it must have taken a long time to paint, perhaps a few months? The painting although 'surreal' is very naturalistic or realistic in style. The paint is very carefully and smoothly applied, and the artists uses perspective with great care taken to show the form and depth of the landscape. The painting is of a deserted craggy and barren wilderness. One can just make out the small village in the far distance. There is a vintage car which seems to have flowering plants growing out of the back seat. In the craggy rock there is the impression of the shape of that car. The car looks like it has been extracted from the rock. The scene seems to be sunny as there is a short shadow under the car, however, the sky which we see has patchy clouds - with one of the clouds being dark and ominous. The mood experienced through the subject is of uncomfortable confusion. I am puzzled as to what the painting is about. The title gives me a clue, it is

Artist Analysis - Zak Smith "...something is stirring: at first no more than refraction, as if there were a source of heat directly in front of the empty chair...Is this really Keith, her father? " The intricate, gloomy and thought-provoking piece displayed above was created by the alternative artist Zak Smith. He has successfully attempted to address the universal theme of fear and has also excellently portrayed the inquisitive nature of humans. The subject matter consists of a suggestive male figure located in an ordinary living room. The figure seems to be somewhat exhausted as though returning home from a difficult journey. Zak Smith created the image with inspiration from a quotation found in Thomas Pynchon's "Gravity's Rainbow". It was his intention to display in great detail the literary prose found within its pages and due to this it portrays a deep sense of emotion and confusion as the young girl believes her father may have returned. It addresses fundamental social issues that many unfortunately encounter during their lifetimes. Many family members seem lost as their relationship ends in divorce or their choice of career takes them to war. This outstanding piece may depict how we long for their return.
