Moments pass and May gets closer as Lennie uncovers the pup.

(muffled screams are heard under the voice of Lennie speaking)
Lennie: Shh please. George might here. He ain’t gonna let me tend no rabbits.
(angrily) just be quiet. NOW. …………silence…………………
Candy: Hey miss. You really shouldn’t be in here. You shouldn’t sleep in no barn. ‘scuse me. I don’t think you should be here.
Silence.
Candy: GEORGE, GEORGE (shouts)
George: What's up?
Candy: It’s May. Oh George.
George: What’s happened?
Candy: She’s gone. George. She’s gone and she’s dead.
George: Goddamit, it wasn’t Lennies fault. She probably wound him up. Damn you, you tart.
Candy: George?
(pause)
George?
George: What? (snappy)
Candy: Are we still gonna get a ranch?
George: Why, why did he do this.
Candy: I guess not. (mumbled)
George. Right, I’m gonna go back out so they ain’t suspicious of me and you come out in a minute yelling all at us. Ok?
Candy: Sure (disappointedly)
