Q. In what ways does H.G Wells in 'The Red Room' and Dickens in 'The Signalman' make the narrators engaging and dynamic?coba bar sebabaw orba bak inba foba ba.

A. The stories 'The Red Room' and 'The Signalman' are written a very long time ago and both the stories have the narrators as being the center of focus. The 'The Red Room' and 'The Signalman' are able to convey a very tense and suspenseful atmosphere. We are able to imagine the situation the narrators are going through by reading these two stories. I will now go into more detailed study of the two stories.coaf afr seafafw oraf afk inaf foaf af;

The Signalman starts with a quote 'Halloa! Below there!' This makes the reader want to read on to find out what the whole situation is all about. The Red room however starts with the narrator saying 'I can assure you'…a few words later suggests that the main outline of the story is about ghosts. This brings out a feeling of tension in the reader. The two characters in the red room bring out a very ghostly feeling in comparison to the Signalman where there aren't any characters besides the narrator. The Signalman in the beginning gets to the main point, which is the encounter with the ghost. The writer to gain the readers attention uses this technique. In the first paragraph words such as shadowed, deep, trench and shaded help to bring out the feeling of tension and excitement in the story. The narrators of the Signalman, and the Red Room both don't have a name and this helps bring out the suspense. The Signalman contains many clues about the ghost and they include the fact that the signalman looks down the line instead of at the narrator as if he is looking for something. Also, the signalman is described as having an attitude of "expectation and watchfulness," suggesting that something is going to happen. Another clue is the way the narrator describes the wind, "it struck chill to me, as if I had left the natural world." As well as this, the signalman speaks of the words the narrator used being conveyed in a "supernatural way." The strange behavior of the signalman, the steep slopes and darkness of the cutting and the eerie sound of the wind in the wires all help to convey a feeling of suspense and tension. This makes the narrator more engaging and dynamic. The Red Rooms narrator is very descriptive when he talks about the door opening and so on. This contributes and builds up the tension in the story. Only the first few parts of the story have speech and the rest of it has a lot of descriptive language and we are able to find out the narrators adventure in going to find out the more about the ghost. The word candle and so on suggests that the room is dark and spooky and the reader is inclined to read on as this builds up the reader's interest in the story. The narrator helps us learn a lot when reading about the signalman. Firstly we come to know that the signalman is conscientious and precise about his work. He becomes used to the monotony and loneliness of his occupation and passes the time learning a language and experimenting with algebra. In his youth he had been well educated although he had "run wild, misused his opportunities, gone down, and never risen again." jyu Visit coursework cg in cg fo cg for cg more writing cg Do cg not cg redistribute jyu

The narrator has the impression that the signalman is reliable and trustworthy and also the signalman is clearly distressed by the apparitions and the subsequent disasters, which the narrator explains as "the mental torture of a conscientious man, oppressed beyond endurance by the unintelligible responsibility involving life." The narrator too in The Signal man is engaging and dynamic. Se0A4a Visit coursework af in af fo af for af more work af Do af not af redistribute Se0A4a
