Steven Herrick’s biggest inspiration was reading books.
Herrick’s favorite books that he likes to read when he was young were soccer magazines or other sport magazines.

Now about the book there are three main characters but the story is based on one of those characters. Billy. The other two characters are Old Bill and Caitlin.
Beginning:
This story is one of Steven Herrick’s books that he received an award for. In the beginning of the story is a boy named Billy and an old man named Old Bill and a girl named Caitlin. Billy leaves home and lives in a carriage in a different town and gets to know new people. He meets Caitlin in a Mcdonalds store one day and eventually becomes friends with her. He also meets Old Bill at the carriages because he is living in the carriage right next to him.
Middle:
Towards the middle of the story Billy starts liking Caitlin in a relationship way but he figures that she is a too high standard student than he is and she has a high quality life to him. This doesn’t effect her in any way and continues to love him. On the other hand Billy and Old Bill become friends and work good together and eventually they get a job together.
Ending:
Moving on to the end many things change including all three of their lives. I’ll leave the rest of the story for you to read you’ll be surprised by the ending.
Billy is the main character and the novel revolves around him and his life. Billy gets help from Caitlin and Old Bill. The simple gift that Billy gets is the keys to a house from Old Bill, and a good friend whom he could trust which is Caitlin. Billy leaves home because of his father and his school. He catches a ride on a train to another town Bendarat and is greeted by the train driver. Even though Billy goes through a tough time with the police he is supported by Caitlin and Old Bill.
Old Bill lives like a hobo even though he has a house. He is the one who helps Billy at the end of the novel. Old Bill drinks a lot of alcohol and smokes every now and then. Old Bill has no family alive because they had died. His daughter died because she fell out of a tree while trying to get her toy. Soon later that year his wife died. These are the two reasons he moved out.
Caitlin becomes Billy’s girlfriend during the story; she first meets Billy at McDonalds and helps him out through the tough time that he is going through. She helps him by giving him food that is left over from McDonalds. Caitlin also supports Billy with his hardship and helps him clean up the house that Old Bill has given to him.
