The use of animals in laboratories, whether for medical research or cosmetics is wrong. Nowadays we have sophisticated technology, such as computers, which can perform the testing needed. Using computers or other technology is much more accurate, because animals are not the same as humans, and our bodies cannot be compared. Also, it is brutally unfair to use fur from murdered animals. Today this is not necessary for warmth or protection. If we indeed have advanced since the caveman days, we can see the truth in this.
If a person is caring toward an animal, it follows that he/she will be caring toward his/her fellow man. On the other hand, if a person is insensitive toward an animal, that person will not be very sensitive to his/her fellow man. It is man's responsibility to protect animals. Just because the Bible says that humans have dominion over other species, does not mean that man has the right to exploit and abuse animals. Animals are God's creatures too. I believe that God smiles down on us when we are kind to animals.
In my own experience, I know the pure unconditional love of my dogs. They are sensitive, empathetic creatures and they are my best friends. Anyone who has been blessed with the love of a dog can understand what I am saying. Likewise, other animal creatures- whether horses, bunnies, or wild cats-have been known to show loyalty and love to their human caretakers.
We need to protect domestic animals- such as cats, dogs, horses, bunnies- because it is our responsibility. Man domesticated these beings, and they are dependent on us. Children must be taught to respect animals, and the humane laws need to be more strict. In return for the care given them, these creatures give unconditional love and faithfulness.
We need to protect wild animals because they have the right to co-exist peacefully on this planet with us. They are important parts of the environment and ecology- the "circle of life." How will the younger generation ever get the chance to appreciate the beauty of a leopard, or the majesty of an elephant, if humans keep brutally killing them? Humanity needs to enlighten their views on the rights of animals. Already, many people have done so, and are living their lives with these principles in mind. The world will be a kinder, gentler place if we treat animals with the respect they deserve.
