Who Do You Think Was Most Responsible for the Deaths of Romeo and Juliet?

Romeo and Juliet is about two lovers who die because of their surround environment which include the people. The play starts with a prologue telling us everything that happens: that ‘a pair of star cross’d lovers take their lives’. We also find out that two families hate each other and that their conflict is ‘an ancient grudge’.

The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet was caused by a lot of different things. Many people could be held responsible, including tybalt, Mercutio and Prince.

MERCUTIO: ’a plague o’ both your houses!’ (Shakespeare has used emotive language where Mercutio is emotional. In his statement he has used ‘you both’ which refers to Montague’s and Capulet’s where he says that both those families have to suffer for what they had done to everyone

PRINCE: ‘If ever you disturb our streets again, your lives shall pay the forfeit of the peace’  His statement has a strong language. In his statement he says on will die as punishments which refers if any Capulet or a Montague fight each other they got to die as their punishments.  

It is also possible that Romeo and Juliet were responsible for their own deaths.
