Observation of the visit: when I 1st arrived Matthew greeted me like always, happy and ready to try new things. We then sat down at the table and I started by telling him what we were going to be doing he seemed happy with the idea so I got the crayons and paper plate out. He asked straight away “can I start please” I said yes sure. So he started colouring he told me all the different colours he was using and what shapes he was drawing. He then said “I’m making a lovely mask for me” Matthew then finished the mask and went to show his mum what he had achieved he was very proud of it.
The experts say that Matthew should be at the stage where he is able to tell me colours and able to recognise shapes and words Matthew is definitely at this stage he told me every colour crayon he used and every shape he drew.
Experts say that Matthew should pronounce words and continuously ask question but I feel Matthew is at the stage of having a fluent conversation.
Evaluation of PIES: In this visit I expected to see physical development (fine motor skills) and Emotional development (sense of achievement) Matthew showed this in my visit. Experts say that Matthew should be able to use pincer grip and be proud of his work I feel Matthew is at this stage.
FAR investigation identified: I intend to find out the qualities of creative play with this activity, and see if children at Matthews’s age are interested in creative play.
Predictions/hypothesis: I expect this activity to show me that children Matthews age enjoy creative play and that children can learn from doing ‘fun’ activities.
Details of investigation: I prepared the mask cut outs and got lots of crayons and suitable things to stick on the mask. I did this to look at the sort of stuff that would help broaden Matthews’s imagination.
Evaluation of FAR: My investigation went quite well I managed to see that Matthew thoroughly enjoyed this activity. All my predictions were correct I saw Matthew showing he enjoyed creatively playing and can learn shapes and colours from ‘fun’ play. I can conclude this visit with the fact that Matthew is able to have a fluent conversation and creatively play alone and with people.
