All of the following were equally important reasons why Stalin was able to hold on to power in the Soviet Union.
- Economic Policies
- Propaganda and the cult of personality
- Purges and show trials
- Secret Police
To What Extent do you agree with this statement?
Stalin never faced a serious threat to his power, and there were a number of reasons why I agree with the statement, and I believe that all the reasons were equally important to help Stalin hold on to power.
The economic policies helped Stalin hold on to power, by working with the purges to create an atmosphere of fear in the USSR. If they didn’t produce enough to comply with his economic policies then they became victims of the purges. An Example of this is the Shakhty trial. In this, a manager was exiled from the country on charges of sabotaging the country, because he didn’t produce enough coal. The amounts of coal to be produced were set up in the five year plans. Five-Year Plans were a series of nation-wide centralized exercises in rapid economic in the . Theye set up amounts that companies had to produce of resources. The five year plans were succesful as they tripled the amount of resources produced by russia, however a downside to this is that it led to a large amount of people in Russia being exiled and killed with the purges. Collectivastion was his other policy. This Collectivisation was an organizational unit in in which are not paid , but rather receive a share of the farm's . Collectivaisation was good because it allowed money to pass in to the economy, but it ultimately failed, as when the famine came, the peasants had no money or food and hundreds of thousands died.
