How Roosevelt created jobs in the 1930’s in his New Deal

                                 

     During the twenties America had a great prosperity up until 1929 when ‘The Depression’ happened.  Widespread unemployment and poverty gripped the nation.  The President Hoover had a policy of not interfering but the country needed action taken.  Hoover did not do anything and thus Roosevelt was elected in 1932.  He came to power in 1933 and action to solve the depression was taken straight away.  

     Roosevelt’s New Deal had three main aims: - to provide relief to the nation, the revive America’s economy and to reform the system with introducing minimum wage, social security and state pensions.

     Roosevelt was granted 100 days by congress to pass any laws to sort out the terrible depression.  Roosevelt wanted to create more jobs for the American people.  This idea was supposed to lower unemployed rates, which would increase output (GNP).  This is how Roosevelt created more jobs.

       The Civil Works Administration (CWA) was formed to create as many short-term jobs.  People were paid to improve schools and roads and airports, even scaring away pigeons from buildings.  Some businessmen and republicans thought these jobs were useless but they did create employment so the economy was being revived.  

     The public Works Administration (PWA) was formed to employ skilled men to build real things that would last for years.  The PWA built dams, bridges, sewage, systems and 70% of the USA’s schools.  7 billion was spent to employ these men but nearly all the ...
