What can a study of Mark's Gospel tell Christians about what it means to be a disciple?

Preaching is a significant part of being a disciple. Jesus told his first disciples " I will send you out to preach", and in the mission of the twelve, this is exactly what they did. The disciples tried to convert people into Christians and help them turn away from their sins.

In the Gospel, Jesus says "I have chosen you to be with me". By this you can see that Jesus personally chose and invited them to follow him. But, Jesus did not force them to join him.

A key part of being a disciple is to have a childlike attitude. When Jesus says " whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it", he means that people must trust and love God just like a little child loves and listens to their parents. This also means that people have to be dependant on God and believe that God will provide them with all they need and will look after them.
