The reason why I have chosen to study at East London University (UEL), is because I had friends who did the same course and they have successfully completed their studies and they loved being at East London University (UEL), because of the help and support they received during their time at the university, they recommended it to me. I can say that they had a big impact in me choosing to study this course at East London University (UEL).
I believe I am bringing along with me some important skills, which will help me succeed in my studies. I have completed a Health and Social Care course at Hammersmith College. I had units on early years, so I have some knowledge about children, which is relevant to the course I am studying at the moment. I think the skills that I have learnt during that time will be very useful. Our work at college was assessed mostly according to our assignments, so this will also be an advantage to me while writing up assignments. Some other skill’s I have, which I think will be useful to me during my time spent at the university, are; being a good listener, being able to work in a group and being able to share my own ideas.
I do not have any time demands at the moment, except that I have to look after my baby cousin, twice a week for a few hours. I do not think any changes are required at this stage, but if in the future I need to make any changes, I will do so. I may have some problems in the future with managing my time, as I am looking for a part-time job at the moment, but I do not intend to put my job before my studies, as at this stage my studies are more important.
The targets I have set to myself for the future are;
- I need to overcome my fears about doing a presentation. I will do this by practicing, such as preparing presentations for family and friends, this way I can gain more confidence and new skills.
- I need to improve my grammar and my vocabulary. I will do this by signing up for English as a second language classes and study in my own time.
- My aim is to successfully complete my course and get a degree. I will do this by working hard, giving myself a lot of time to study and meeting deadlines.
I think that the best way I learn is by listening, taking notes while listening, so that I can always go back and refer to my notes if I forget anything. I also like to ask question’s if there is something that I do not understand. I do like group discussions and sharing my own ideas, but I am not very good at taking the lead. Out of the four learning style’s, I think I fit mostly into ‘The Thinker or Reflector’.
In concluding I hope I have demonstrated myself well enough. I would fully appreciate the opportunities that would be available to me at university, both academically and socially. The chance to enrich my knowledge in my area of interest excites me and I do not intend to waste it. By participating fully in university life I hope to reach my full potential.
