In my views the site is excellent.
Overview
The Web Site ‘www.direct.gov.uk’ is a government site.
The site ‘www.direct.gov.uk’ uses orange, yellow, red and white colours.
The main purpose of the site is to provide information to the public about all public services that is available. It offers A-Z information about crime, justice and law, education, health, environment, travel and transport etc.; it also has online services, directory and newsroom. I don’t think the site has a secondary purpose.
There are headings of different areas such as newsroom, directory and online services that are put on separate pages. Navigation to each of these areas is achieved by selecting one of the ‘tabs’ along the top of the page.
Home page
This page is laid out as a table. It has headings of all the services where the user can read and look for required information. Those links then follows through a chain of pages, some of them even with links of other sites.
Directory page
This page also laid out as a table. It has headings which the user can select and search for information, such as looking for a local council.
Do it online
This page is again laid out as a table. It gives the user an opportunity to use online services such as applying for a Citizenship or a UK visa. It allows the user to download and print forms from other government sites.
Newsroom
This page is also laid out as a table. It has links of parliament and government departments’ news, and public safety news. Then those news links follow other pages laid out as a text using different font sizes and images.
Directgov web site is well constructed. It is very simple to browse and uncomplicated.
It offers all public services in one place, which is very helpful.

Overview
The web site ‘www.ryanair.com’ is a commercial site.
The site uses the company colours which are navy blue, yellow, white and orange.
The main purpose of the website is to allow users to book and pay for flights online.
The site has lots of secondary purposes of letting the users’ book, and pay for; car hire, hotels, airport transfers, tours and trips, credit card, foreign currency, and travel, life and home insurance.
The site is organised by putting the main purpose and each of the secondary purposes on separate pages. Each purpose then follows through a chain of pages to complete the separate booking processors. Navigation to each of the ‘purposes’ of the web site is achieved by selecting one of the ‘tabs’ along the top of the page.
Booking flights
The first page of the site’s main task, to book flights, is laid out in table form. A FORM is placed in one of the cells of the table which allows the user to select the starting and destination airports, the travel dates and the number of passengers and then to search for relevant flights. Other cells in the table give details of special flight deals on offer.
Car hire
The car rental page is laid out in table with a central FORM which allows the user to select the location, the rental dates and times and the type of car. The other cells on the page give details of special deals on offer for car rental.
Hotels
The hotels page again is laid out as a table. In one cell a FORM allows the user to select the country and location, the dates required and the number of guests. The other cells have special deals on offer and a set of hotel images and prices for the chosen destination.
Tours and trips
The tours and trips page is also laid out as a table. In one cell a FORM allows the user to select the destination, the dates and the type of tour or trip required. The other cells have special deals with images of sightseeing and tours for the chosen destination.
The airport transfers, credit card, foreign currency and travel, life and home insurance pages take the users to a different (partner) link of Ryan air businesses, where they will be asked to choose the type of services they require. And it uses nearly the same lay out as above.
Overall, the web site is laid out beautifully and is uncomplicated and eye-catching. It uses different font types and font sizes for its bargains and offers. The site also has several European language translations, which makes very easy for non-English readers (European passengers) to use it.
