During this essay I will be looking at the film “Saving Private Ryan” directed by Steven Spielberg. I will be discussing and looking at the way the director Spielberg uses cinematic techniques in the first gripping battle scene. To do this I will include in this essay the use of character, sound, camera shots and angles.

The film “Saving Private Ryan” by Steven Spielberg was based on a true story that happened on Omaha beach in World War II (1939-1945). The film cost $65 billion dollars to make and most off it went towards the first gripping battle scene. The film was released in 1998 and won 5 academy awards as well as best director. It got Oscars for cinematography, film editing, sound and sound effect editing. Film critics honoured it with best picture and best director. It also got two golden globe awards.

He showed a lot of potential by showing a lot of concern for his own troops by trying to save one of his own troops whilst being shot at by the faceless Germans along the beach dragging this body which then ends up being blown to bits ...
