The Crucible
Act 2 p51-55
I will be writing about the stage directions and what’s going on in the scenes of act 2 pages 51-53. This is where Elizabeth is first introduced.
At the beginning of the scene Elizabeth seems paranoid about Proctor has been up to. I sense this because she says ‘what keeps you so late? It’s almost dark.’ She seems to not trust him after she found out that he committed lechery with Abigail. Maybe Elizabeth thinks he is still seeing her. There conversations seem very uncomfortable. It seems like there just making chitchat, they don’t really don’t really know what to say to each other. Elizabeth then brings in the dinner. The stage directions say ‘she sits and watches him.’ She is anxious to see whether he likes her dinner. Proctor then says ‘it’s well seasoned.’ She then blushes with pleasure, she wants to please him.
