Wars have badly affected many LEDC’s. In Africa, countless civil wars have been caused by ethnic groups and civil wars were caused in Sudan where over a million people have set up refugee camps in the neighbouring country of Chad. Also wars can be caused between different countries due to corruption and political ‘hype’ Wars have shattered many lives also the bare fundamentals they need. This meaning crops, homes, schools, hospitals, ect. Resulting in more poverty, this also forces people to move homes and become refugees in another country. The neighbouring country may have become an EDC (economically developing country) but a sudden intake of refugees is sufficient to make a country collapse into poverty again.
Natural Disasters are other factors that cause poverty, such events like the tsunami. Many LEDC’s are situated in parts of the world where natural devastation occurs commonly. This including earthquakes, floods, droughts, etc. A flood can destroy many thousands of homes and farmland on which the people depend on. The same as a drought where no rain can cause turmoil to the country.
The UN made a declaration of human rights in 1948. All countries part of the UN had to accept these rights in order for world peace. Some of the acts involved ‘All humans are born free.’ The definition of freedom is to be able to do something with your own free will. Yet present affairs like Iraq pose questions and reasonable doubt that there is any core standing in this act. Another act stated ‘Everybody has a right to a standard of living including hosing medication and food’ Its all well saying this when in Zimbabwe houses are being purposely ripped down, and those who refuse killed.
So why is there a need for world development? Over a fifth of the world’s population are living in absolute poverty. Over 90% of Southern situated countries live in bad conditions by exploitation, due to Western or developed countries. War tragedies leave lives in danger (Iraqi War) ending in rebellion against others.
The irony of the MEDC’s and LEDC’s is that MEDC’s are suffering from obesity and LEDC’s suffering from hunger. Education is low as 70% and that is tremendously low, we should all be aiming to create more EDC’s
My conclusion is that everybody should work together for a better world and global development.
