Animal Lane Cattery Information Technology System

IDENTIFICATION The Animal Lane Cattery, a privately owned small business, needs an efficient, updateable, expandable, easily accessible information system to track and document clients' needs for boarding/grooming services. The objective is to design and develop a system that fulfils the needs of the Cattery. An effective electronic filing system will eliminate lost paperwork, minimize errors, and provide a method for quality customer service. I will be designing and making the system that we choose for the Cattery. As the Cattery has expanded its boarding and grooming services to accommodate a total of 15 cats in separate pens, an increase in customer complaints have been received concerning the Cattery's inaccurate and time-consuming tracking of specific client information. This inefficiency means that clients have to give an update of their feline's information to the Cattery's staff and has resulted in service errors. At the moment, they use a flatbed database, which only allows you to work with one table open at any time. The Cattery has considered using a "pen and paper" system, writing things out manually and storing information on paper, but a more efficient system would be a relational database. Their ideal system is a relational database, and this will allow them to have macros, reports, queries, and searches based on the information needed. This, therefore, is the

Produce a fully functional and well documented spreadsheet that solves a problem.

"Online Direct Computers" ASSIGNMENT TASK For this task we were asked to produce a fully functional and well documented spreadsheet that solves a problem. A SUMMARY OF "ONLINE DIRECT COMPUTERS" The company sells to small corner shops in the east midlands. All the sales to shops are currently recorded on an order form that will be processed in the company's main office. They use calculators to find out the total cost. They have a total of four company reps that they use to deliver orders and take new orders if required. Each of the rep carries a number of documents including order forms and a catalogue including a price list. The current system used to take orders can no longer handle the increasing quantity of trade and a new system is required. The company decided to solve this problem by giving each rep a laptop computer. A package will be installed into the laptops to process the data. The company will require the following features in the package: * An automated order form to replace the current one. * A database containing each item of stock. * A facility to update the sales sheet. * A summary sheet to raise the stock order from the warehouse so they can be delivered on the next round. * A total sales sheet so it is possible to view any commission earned by the rep. * A home page that can be used to navigate to the other pages. * An option to print

Task 1 Computer components To build a PC you must buy all of the required components otherwise the computer will not work properly or not work at all. Here is a list of all required computer components to make it work: * Motherboard- motherboard is a main component in a computer. It is a printed circuit board and it connects the CPU, RAM, and the cards which generate sound and graphics so they can communicate between each other to make a working computer system. There are many types of motherboards, those ones made more recently than others are ATX motherboards. An ATX motherboards contain the normal I/O (input-output) connectors such as USB, serial ports, PS/2. without mother board there is no way the components will work together. * Case- basically a case holds together all of the components so they don't fall apart. The type of case depends on what motherboard is used for the computer. Nowadays it is ATX so the cases for these motherboards are ATX cases. * CPU- Central Processing Unit is so called a brain of a computer. The CPU performs processes and runs programs on your computer. It is needed for any action that is done on a computer. The faster the CPU the faster it will do what is required. A processor is made up of cores. The more cores it has the better it is. Nowadays most CPUs have 2 cores and some even 4. That gives a lot of power and speed when executing

Legislation Data Protection Act The Data Protection Act gives individuals the right to know what information is held about them. It provides a framework to ensure that personal information is handled properly. The Act works in two ways. Firstly, it states that anyone who processes personal information must comply with eight principles, which make sure that personal information is: * Fairly and lawfully processed * Processed for limited purposes * Adequate, relevant and not excessive * Accurate and up to date * Not kept for longer than is necessary * Processed in line with your rights * Secure * Not transferred to other countries without adequate protection The second area covered by the Act provides individuals with important rights, including the right to find out what personal information is held on computer and most paper records. Should an individual or organisation feel they're being denied access to personal information they're entitled to, or feel their information has not been handled according to the eight principles, they can contact the Information Commissioner's Office for help. Complaints are usually dealt with informally, but if this isn't possible, enforcement action can be taken. The Data Protection Act (DPA) is a United Kingdom Act of Parliament. What are the principle advantages and disadvantages of the Airbus A380 in respect of airlines, passengers and airports? By Iain Dudley 5th October 2004 Introduction Never since the introduction of Concorde in 1969, has there been so much Public interest in an aircraft as in Airbus's A380. This giant of the sky has captured the public imagination in many ways from its shear size to possible futuristic cabin arrangements. So it begs the question what are the advantages and disadvantages of the A380 for the Airlines who operate her, the Airports who accommodate her and the passengers whom fly in her? There are endless positives and negatives about the A380 but in the following analysis the major and most important ones shall be discussed. Information about A380 is mainly obtained from the manufacturer. Other information has been found on the CAA website and in Kings Norton library, Cranfield. Airlines Airbus claims that the A380 has a lower operating cost when compared with the largest aircraft flying today. They also say that its higher capacity and range is accompanied by a reduction in both noise and emissions when compared with its nearest competitor. This is all food for thought for airlines and can be seen as an advantage of the aircraft, airlines buying A380 can increase availability on popular routes leading to more satisfied customers. Batch Processing

Batch Processing Using batch processing input data is grouped together into batches. No data is processed until a complete batch has been put together. Then all the data in a batch is processed in one go. There may be a long time delay between data being input into the system and the data being processed. In this type of system the important data that the computer stores all the time is kept in a file called the master file. The data in the master file is sorted into order using one of the fields in the records in the file, known as the primary key field. The primary key field must uniquely identify each record in the file. Each piece of input data (which will update the contents of the master file) is known as a transaction. All the input data is put together into a batch in a file called the transaction file. There are three different types of transaction that any processing system will have to cope with. They are: * Add a new record to the master file. * Delete a record from the master file. * Amend / update an existing record in the master file. At some predetermined time (e.g. the end of the day or week) the computer system will process the data stored in the transaction file and make any changes that are necessary to the master file as a result of the transactions. This will produce an updated master file and an error report detailing any transactions that
