First of all, there are some advantages on having a gap year. Students may become more confident and independent as they learn making responsible decision for themselves. They can also see the world, which can broaden their horizon, and learning things that they could never learn at school. They may use the time to think about their future and experience life. Besides, they can make new friends with different nationality. For some people, they will use this gap year for travelling. During the trips, students can have chance to experience new cultures, visit ancient cities and taste local delicacies. In addition, they can get away from the stress of daily life and revivify in exotic surrounding. Moreover, students can improve their language skills, for example Mandarin and English skills.
Having a gap year not only can benefit students’ personal development, but also helps them impress future employees and universities. Students may go to work at foreign countries, they can learn how to cooperate with others and work as a team. They will also learn to accept other people’s opinions. Besides that, students may develop their patience, their determination, their courage to face challenges, as well as their talents. As a result, they can discover where their interests lie and then they will work on them with great passion.
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages. Students will lag behind of other students who don’t have a gap year. They will not be able to refocus on their studies after being away from the school for at least a year. Additionally, they waste a year in travelling to different countries. They have to spend a lot of money on the accommodation and transportation during the trips. Likewise, in this few years, the world is less safe for travelers especially the youngsters. Accidents may always happen.
Finally, in my opinion, I still prefer having a gap year. I want to experience something challenging and enriching. When I am working on one thing or expressing my idea to other people, I do not have enough confidence. What I mean is that I want to make good use of this gap year to learn new skills
