Churchill, known as a tireless worker, was a prime minister who everyone in Britain looked up to. Throughout the war he gave an image of confidence and inspired people to be prepared for war. He gave famous speeches regularly and kept up morale. His speeches praised people’s bravery and made them feel proud of what they were doing. He was the publics hope. His speeches were crucial to the people of Britain to help them through the “dark days”. They were so powerful and had such and impact to the people of Britain that they are still remembered. In one particular speech he said: “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fights in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.” This showed that he was determined to win and be victorious.

Churchill dressed in the streets often wearing overalls and a tin hat. This showed the soldiers that they were fully supported by Winston Churchill and were not alone; this also cheered them on and gave them the confidence which they needed. He spent many nights on a camp bed in the underground War Room in bomb-battered London to also show his support. His mind was full of ideas and schemes of fighting back, gaining victory and eventually beating Hitler.

Overall, I think Winston Churchill was very important during the Second World War. I think this because he was the one figure everyone in Britain listened to and looked up to. If Churchill acted like a coward and was afraid of war then what hope did the people of Britain have? They would have had none. Churchill however was a ray of hope to many people and inspired countless people to be prepared and ready for war by giving famous speeches which are remembered till this day. His speeches made people determined to get through the war by doing all they could to help Britain. He said in the House of Commons "I would say to the House, as I said to those who have joined this government: I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears and sweat.” He meant that the path was going to be hard, not easy but they would make it. People also liked the fact that he was honest and did not lie about what was going to happen during the war.
