Research project comparing the level and set up of English Cricket to Australian Cricket.

Jonathan Ascroft Research project comparing the level and set up of English Cricket to Australian Cricket. Why is Australia better at cricket than England, the country that invented the game? With the 2002 Ashes series being a walk over for Australia and retaining their world champions title with ease in the ICC world cup in South Africa I am going to investigate the factors that make Australia such a strong team on the cricket world stage. Will the next ashes series be yet another victory to Australia and will they remain the dominant team in the 2003 cricket season. I am very interested in this topic as I enjoy participating and following the game of cricket. I watch a lot of cricket at different levels. When you look at the Australian and England teams the names of the players are all well-known figures in the sport and are all very talented. When the Ashes come round I think of what it would be like to win it, as I was only 3 when England won against Australia in the ashes back in 1986/7. The scorecard after an encounter with these two teams amazes me to find out how England have been hammered by the aussies once again. Why is Australia so good at cricket? This project is a research project and the topic ties in well with part of the specification, unit1 section A4 about Professional (Elite) sport and unit 4 Global Trends in International Sport. I have used my

Carl Brewer once said, "The game of hockey itself is very easy

Carl Brewer once said, "The game of hockey itself is very easy. It is the thinking about it that makes it hard." This quote is saying how hockey is not just about physical playing but also thinking mentally. It is showing how hockey is such an amazing sport with great speed, excitement and thrill and just the love for the game itself. It is not just a boring game to watch like baseball but it is entertaining active (somebody is always moving) and fun to both watch and play. Hockey is a sport that has many parts to it. You must have a referee to judge and watch the game. You must have skilled players who know how to skate and maneuver a puck on ice. You must have the coach to plan what the players can to and also pose as a mentor to the players. You must have all these people and things an order to properly play the game. You must also have teamwork and cooperation in the game of hockey as well. Teamwork is a key factor because without teamwork you have just one individual person playing out on the ice, which would make it a losing team. The point of the game is to maneuver past many defence people to get a puck in the opposing teams net. Pierre Page once said,"A player must be able to skate, have hocky sense, able to shoot-not necessarily able to score-and have drive" Another key is the thinking part. This is an important factor in the game because with out a plan or

Local and national provision football.

Local and national provision football In this project I will be researching the provision of football in England, but mainly focussing on provision in my local area, Cambridge. I will be investigating the provision of football from the most basic level, being grassroots and looking at the opportunity available to progress to elite level. Also I will be looking into provision for women/girls and the disabled. Grass roots level: - grassroots is the most basic level of playing football, like playing at the local recreation ground with your friends; this then leads to a more competitive level like playing for a local club. The football association are good practice at grass roots level in football via their Charter Standard scheme so that parents and children can demand a minimum standard of provision from schools, clubs and holiday courses. Robbie Keane - A 'Star's' Story.

Robbie Keane - A 'Star's' Story Thirty-eight million pounds worth of moves at only 26 years of age. Ascending through the ranks of five clubs, starting with Wolves, and moving to Coventry City. Inter Milan, and then Leeds. Finally Tottenham, where Glenn Hoddle believed 'He could be a star', and 'Our style of play suits Robbie perfectly'. The statements of course, came true. In my many seasons as a professional footballer, I have won many trophies, and caps. In all, I've won sixty-eight caps for my country, Republic Of Ireland and scored seventy-two goals in the matches. I have of course won the FA Cup with my current team, Tottenham Hotspur, as well as getting to the final, and losing, and to the semi-final, and going down on penalties to London rivals, Fulham. The Worthington Cup has returned to the Lane during my four years at the club twice, and also, the Premiership Title came in my first season at the major London club. Of course, it was that season that I won his first golden boot, capturing thirty-four goals from the thirty-two games he played. I also won the golden boot the season after, with twenty-eight goals. It came as no surprise when Glenn Hoddle, former boss of Tottenham Hotspur, now Assistant Manager, praised me with the words: 'He's fulfilled all the things I wanted of him', 'Amazing', 'Incredible', 'Wonder-boy', and 'Owen's prodigy'. Current manager

How the Olympic ideas changed since the first modern Olympics

How the Olympic ideas changed since the first modern Olympics In the first modern held at Athens in 1896, the ultimate dream of the Olympics, finally re-created by Baron Pierre de Coubertin. The Olympic motto reflects the dedication of the athletes as they take part in the games. In the oath they promise to compete "in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of the sport and the honor of our teams." The Olympics were set up for people to compete for the love of their sport and not for money and sponsorship. While few qualify to participate in this international competition, many athletes 'strive to imitate the example of dedication, cooperation and enthusiasm exhibited by the competitors.' Up until 1984 the modern Olympics, was set up and held without any major sponsorship and funding, but in Los Angeles, USA 1984, it made a massive $215 000 000 profit, the first to ever make profit. Major sponsors including McDonalds, Coca Cola, Kodak and Panasonic pay millions of pounds to have their company name and logo put up around the stadium and displayed on T.V. at the most popular viewing times. "The important thing in these Olympics is not so much winning as taking part. The important thing in life is not the victory but the battle" (Baron Pierre de Coubertin, 1896.) The first Olympics saw athletes compete not for money and fame but for love of the sport, but this

Task 3 - Events such as World War II can affect the development of sports. Using examples from World War II and other World events, Discuss and analyse these events to show how the sport has grown, stunted or been affected by these world events. The Development of sports is greatly affected by world events and the politics of governments. In an ideal world sport should not be affected by any outside influences. However the past has shown that sport is often the loser when up against influences such as world wars and terrorism. In 1936 the Berlin games were manipulated by the Nazi government to promote the countries political ideals. Many Germans were imprisoned so they couldn't disrupt the games. Only Germans of Hitler's so call Aryan race were allowed to compete for Germany. This had a huge affect on the game as other Germans were banned from taking part. The Olympics and all other sporting events during World War2 were either cancelled or postponed. The next Olympics took place at Melbourne in 1956 and saw Spain and Holland withdraw in protest against the Russian invasion of Hungry. This affected the games as two majors teams had pulled their athletes out of the events. At the Tokyo games in 1964, the invitation to South Africa was with withdrawn because of that countries policy of apartheid. This hugely affected the outcome of the games as the South Africans were
