My trip was going to be with my mum because she was going to take care of me as my dad says I am too young to go on a trip by myself in a country where I had not even been to in my life. My mum knew the places that I would enjoy visiting and shopping as she grew up in Hong Kong, she only moved here to London due to the fact that her dad, which is my granddad, was working here when my grandma died.
Later on in the day the time had come for me to say goodbye to my family and call my friends to say I was leaving, I was in the middle of the phone call when suddenly my mum shouted,
"HURRY UP! The taxis going to leave without us!"
Without much haste I hung the phone up, grabbed my suitcase and headed for the door. We then set off to the airport and the journey in the cramped car wasn’t that thrilling but I decided to take my mind off the foul smell and think more about my five day vacation.
I heard from my friends that there would be loads of shopping for me to do at the airport so I could take my mind of things then as they knew I was anxious to go on the plane. Unexpectedly something suddenly vibrated in my front pocket.
“You don’t have to buy anything for me, just come back safely.” It was a mobile phone message I received from my friend. It seemed to be the same idea that I got from my family as well. Nobody was expecting anything from me and my mum but to merely come back safely.
[Ding-Dong]
"Flight BA616 will be leaving shortly, please could all passengers be at the boarding gate number 33, this will be the last warning."
[Ding-Dong]
A lady was calling our boarding gate number and it was time to enter the plane, her voice was gentle and soothing and it calmed my nerves down as we were walking towards the gate, I could finally see our plane and it was gigantic!! My anticipation grew as my mum lead the way to our seats and I released we were walking quite a long way to the back of the aircraft, then we arrived and we had reserved the two window seats near the back of the plane. I had never imagined it to look like this, everything was so clean and looked so new, there was a small television on the back of each seat to watch films and listen to music which was incredible and it defiantly felt great to be in the plane.
After the airplane ascended into the air, food was being distributed to people at the front; I could smell it as the vapour flowed to the back of the aircraft, it made me feel sick because it reeked of hospital food. I told my mum I didn’t want any and soon after I feel asleep on my mums shoulder. I only awoke just before arriving at Hong Kong’s airport.
Everybody departed out of the aircraft and we had finally reached our destination, Hong Kong. I could see so many Chinese people rushing back and forth carrying their suitcases looking frantic. My mum then said we had to catch a bus towards the town we were heading to, we stepped outside it was already dark and the air was so stuffy it was unbelievable, I had worn so many layers as I thought it was going to be cold!
We entered the bus and we were traveling quite a long way as we were going to stay at a hotel which was included to the package. Subsequently we had arrived at our stop, I strolled out carrying my suitcase and my eyes rapidly glittered with excitement, my lengthy journey was over! Banners were above the shops and the lights sparkled spectacularly in assortments in the sky. The mayhem traffic on the streets, people were shouting abuse in their cars as they waited to drive.
"Wow"
I was truly impressed with the gigantic skyscrapers which towered over me. After walking a few minutes, it began to drizzle. We hurried over to the nearest shelter which was an alleyway; a small signs printing "THEIVES ABOUT" alerted my attention. From the glamorous streets of Hong Kong, we found our self at the other side.
“Do you have any spare change please?” a crippled old man asked, a tear soon appeared in my eye, how could anyone live here in such unhygienic conditions when the other side of the city was the total opposite. The stench of urine passed through the air and we quickly made our way back.
We then checked into a five star hotel, I was knackered! I changed into my pajamas and I dreamt of what a magnificent day I had and many more days to come.
