Who in your opinion is most responsible for the death of Eva Smith?

J.B. Priestley writes the play. It is about a middle class family who are celebrating the engagement of Sheila and Gerald. An inspector who is investigating the death of Eva Smith interrupted the celebration.

The main theme of the play is to make people to realize that their actions will affect others. The play was written in 1946, just before world war two, but was set in 1912, just before world war one. At this time men thought that women should be protected from horrible things.

Birling is a heavy-looking rather portentous man in his middle fifties with fairly easy manners like to talk a lot most of what says is a lot of rubbish e.g. he said ‘that the titanic will not sink and war will not brake out’. Birling is undoubtedly pleased about his daughters happiness in her engagement to Gerard, he is also aware of possible business advantages arising from the union of the two families. Birling employed Eva at his factory. Daisy and some others wanted a pay rise so they went on strike. Eva was one of the ringleaders, so Birling dismissed her from his works. I don’t think that Birling is responsible for the death of Eva.
