Thomas Cream was a doctor, he would have access to sharp knives in addition he secretly did abortions for prostitutes therefore he knew even more about prostitutes and body parts, besides he had educated in both Canada and London. After his family moved to Canada in 1854, he attended McGill University in Montreal and went to study medicine at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School, London in 1876; he had an added incentive for crossing the Atlantic to England, since he had just married Flora Brooks, whom he had impregnated and almost killed while aborting the baby. This is why I believe that 60% from all the information gathered that Jack the Ripper was Thomas Cream.
The second reason on why I think Thomas Cream was Jack the Ripper is because that he had murdered several prostitutes: On 13 October 1887, Ellen "Nellie" Don worth, a 19-year-old prostitute, accepted a drink from Cream. She was severely ill the next day and died on 16 October from strychnine poisoning. On 20 October 1887, Cream met with a 27-year-old prostitute named Matilda Clover. She became ill and died the next morning; her death was at first attributed to her alcoholism. On 2 April 1892, after a vacation in Canada, Cream was back in London where he attempted to poison Lou Harvey who, being suspicious of him, pretended to swallow the pills he had given her. She secretly disposed of them by throwing them off a bridge into the River Thames. Baring in mind he had murdered many prostitutes he had become a professional at hiding his crime.
The final reason on why I think Thomas Cream was Jack the Ripper is he had claimed himself of being Jack the ripper this senses he had surrendered before he died this also meant he did not want to remain it a secret. There was also another problem: he had similar handwriting to the letters sent to journalists.
In conclusion I would argue that Jack the Ripper was Thomas Cream, this is due to the fact of the evidence and information collected, and the major reason for this is that he was a ‘well educated doctor that knew how to do abortions,’ ‘access to knives,’ ‘disliked prostitution,’ and other reasons...
Explain why you believe Jack the Ripper was never caught?
I think Jack the Ripper was never caught because of modern technology not existing in that period of time such as: ‘no DNA databases’, ‘poor photography’, ‘no CCTV cams’ ‘not even a tests that could notify human blood from animal blood’ and ‘no forensic services’, so there could have been a chance of catching him if they had technology we have today, meaning the police were left to solve it by clues and this would have been impossible to find a trace as Jack the Ripper left very gruesome clues.
There was also another major problem; ‘Whitechapel’ being the poorest areas in London sensing they were unable to buy such facilities: lighting posts and more police members. Referring to the victims of Jack the ripper being poor, prostitute, homeless and some were thieves and heavy drinkers. After each murder the police never came close to capturing the murderer and bringing him to justice, causing the public’s fear and alarm to grow and each murder, creating Whitechapel an awkward place to live in.
The Conditions in Whitechapel helped Jack the Ripper commit his crimes, I can assume this because of the pollution of factories filling the maze like streets and the area was busy day and night which led to the conclusion of him being local, because he blending in with the crowd, this helped him because people were less visible making him a shadow in the crowd. There were lots if unemployment in the east side of London, there was only one place for employment, being a prostitute so many women turned to prostitution as the only way to survival, this way also another advantage for Jack the Rippers murders because no one would ask him why he was going out with a woman at night.
As a Conclusion I think it was nearly impossible to catch Jack the Ripper without modern technology because the police force had to catch Jack the Ripper in act or an eye witness ‘when nobody was brave enough to claim his murder.’
